Post late motormounts on early cars?

I have some contradicting info on whether or not the late style motor mounts will work on an early car (pre 83). This obviously involves drilling new holes for the later mounts.

BUT, I have also been informed by someone who tried it, and had to updat ethe cross member itself. (which is fine, as i can get one for 50 bucks, and I am going to use Ford mounts anyway, at maybe 50 each, and I will then be quite ahead of the 125 each OEM mounts!

Any BTDT on the later style mounts in an early car?

Brendan,
I stayed with the old style mounts on my track car, but Dave Lloyd is using the new style on his 79 track car. He told me it was just a matter of drilling a hole in the cross member.
Good luck!
