Tim88,

That the AC is "not up to speed" could be a very simple fix. You didn't specify whether it is cooling poorly or not at all, but aside from the obvious low refrigerant, poor cooling could be caused by a faulty heater (aka hot water) valve that allows hot coolant into the heater core. If the compressor won't run, but the system is otherwise spec, you might have the common, fried relay in the center console climate control unit. The fix, replacing the relay, is pretty easy, and the test and R&R procedure can be found with a quick search of the forum.

I don't know anything about windshield sources, but obviously a call to 928 Int'l or 928 Specialists should answer your questions. Be aware that your '88 probably has the radio antenna embedded in the windscreen, which, obviously, costs more than a plain windshield.

The reluctant sunroof probably has a gummed up actuator mechanism/tracks. I haven't had to drop the headliner to get into there myself, but I've heard of it being done. Well aimed lube might do the trick, but in any case, I'd file this under minor issue/no need to address before road trip.

Keep us up to speed with the purchase, and good luck!

Another issue is the sunroof motor. It "needs help" to open the sunroof as well. All and all still sounds like a solid car...If the PPI goes well...it's coming home
Tim,

I spoke w/ ?German Auto Dismantlers? (first and last words definitely correct) in the ATL area.
They had a green tinted one available. I needed a bronze tint, with the antenna imbedded.

I am presently on the road w/ the ALMS Mid-Ohio Grand Prix, so I don't have the exact info with me...

Hope all checks out for you!

Tim, I saw your car at Automotive Techniques yesterday while I was picking mine up. Looked like it was in great shape. I too have a black S4 5-speed ('87 though). Jeff commented how last week was the 1st time ever he's had 3 black 5-speed S4's in the shop.

Anyhow good luck with your purchase and hope you enjoy your car as I have mine.

BEN S.
