To restore they get chemically stripped, physically polished and THEN anodized.....

Right, and there aren't that many places that do anodizing anymore. Is there anyone here with the guts to try doing it him or herself? Caswellplating.com sells a kit for doing anodizing at home. Basically, you need a source of electricity, tubs large enough for whatever you're annodizing, distilled water and a few chemicals.

I thought about doing it for Galaxie trim. Basically, buy some long PVC pipes and cap them, strip trim pieces then reanodize them in the long tubes, but it sounds like it's probably easy to anodize something but really hard to do a good job of it.

Caswellplating.com does sell excellent products for stripping and polishing metals, though, including some deanodizers that do not harm the underlying bare aluminum as lye will do.
