I know of someone local who had new Porsche mounts installed (he did the work himself) and they leaked the fluid right out in less than 6 months....Of course they were under warranty...but....alas ...the labor was not...second times the charm it seems...

Skip the fluid filled mounts..give me solid billet aluminum...that way all the power made by the engine is used to accelerate the car...not rock the engine ;-) ;-)

For some things, it's ok to use aftermarket stuff, but for a job as hard and time consuming as changing motor mounts, I think it's pennywise and pound foolish. Again, YMMV.[/QB][/QUOTE]

Ed, There was a false start a few years ago. The first Ford mount that was tried was for a Tempo, Anchor 2696. Later the truck mount was discovered Anchor 2698. Did the two 928s that had failures use the 2696 or 2698?

I don't know about the first guy, but the second said he used the truck motor mounts. YMMV.

Below is the reply I got from Corteco, with such a large company I wonder how the 928 actually came on their radar screen ?

I ordered them Monday and they came Thursday. They are Anchor 2698s. That is half price compared to the locals.
I checked some of their 928 prices, and they are high, but this might be the best place to buy parts for your other cars.

Here's an observation on new motor mounts. When I bought my Shark the motor mounts were completely collapsed. I didn't know it at the time and I drove for over a year that way. I just had my mounts replaced and it feels like a completely different car. It's so quiet and smooth but I'm not sure if I like this better. It's almost too much like a luxury car now. I miss the noise and vibration from my "directly connected" V8.

I actually got the Corteco mounts for like 20 or 30 something each. Very nice indeed. Haven'tdriven the car much, and will need to install thsoe heat sheilds so these don't burn from the headers being like, uh, 15MM from the rubber.

The 2698 mount, as I mentioned earlier, is available in solid rubber, but the engine might vibrate too much. The shocks that the early cars have might be needed?

Like I said, whomever wishes to pay way more than they need to for some simple rubber, MPTU (More power to Ya), but would muich rather spend my difference on some drop links or a ADJ FPR.

No one knows just how long OEM motor mounts will last, but it seems fair to say that based on annecdotal evidence based on the time frame owners seem to be replacing them, that they do last about 10 years or so. Also, no one knows just how long the Ford motor mounts will last on 928s. Maybe they'll last as long (or longer) than OEM mounts, maybe not???

The number of 928s that have them is not all that many. Moreover, the amount of time that has passed since they were installed is not more than a few years. I guess "Time will tell". YMMV.

BTW, as pointed out by someone who cut an OEM mount apart, they are not just a piece of rubber. They may indeed be over-priced, but there's substance and engineering in there. Perhaps (just perhaps) this is yet another case of "You do indeed get what you pay for". Again, YMMV.

Lastly, remember that even though you may have bought your 928 for a tiny fraction of its original price - no one ever said a 928 was cheap to maintain. Caring for a 928 is more like caring for a race horse than caring for a work horse.
