It is stated from Porsche:

Without seeing pic I would expect it to have brown vinyl everywhere else except those areas of seats which one sits on and small pieces on doors above armrests. Dash etc most likely do not have stitches at all. So its most likely standard stuff like so many other 928's.

If you push into the material with your thumbnail (or a fingernail), and the depression from the nail stays for a minute or so, it is leather. If it recovers to the original configuration without a depression in 15-30 seconds, it is vinyl. This test is good only for the "upholstery" type areas (seats, door panels, rear qtr panels, etc.).
IF you are investigating an area where the vinyl is cast over a hard polyurethane foam (door arm rest, dash, etc.), then the vinyl will be hard, and no indentation will be possible.
Leather, may also be so hard that no indentation is possible if it is over a hard backing, such as the dash, and has not been maintained properly. In this case, there will be stitching in the covering. Vinyl in those applications will not have stitching.

PS: In the 6 cars I've had, plus 2 other's I've helped restore or part out, I've never seen the rear quarter panels "warp" when covered in vinyl. Everyone of these that had leather, however, were warped. Ernest, I believe you must have leather!!!!

Thanks Gary and everyone else; gotta try the nail test.

Had a chance to look closer at the sun visors today, and they definitely have what seems to be a zipper along the rear edge (although I can't see anything resembling a zip lock).

Interior code for my car is 'UD' btw, anyone know what that means ?

Cheers,
Erling

At the moment it's borderline mild nightmare, with electrical gremlins and an aircon/ventilation system that appears completely screwed. And still something tells me it's just getting warmed up....

Well Erling, I hope your pessimism goes unrewarded. There are always PO issues to straighten out, but as long as that light at the end of the tunnel isn't a train you'll end up fine.
It's too bad you don't have more local 928 support to help you past these first three or four hurdles. Just dig in, keep a digital camera handy, post your findings here and we'll try and get you through it. I say "we" meaning the experts will advise and I'll cheer lead.

I made a modification to my original post, as I was only referring to upholstery vinyl/leather. The modification addresses "hard vinyl" items.

Thanks Charley; hope I can get the issues ironed out soon, because otherwise I love the car
Will post a status report soon.

Gary, thanks for the update. Will try the nail method one of the coming days. The fact that the sun visors are apparantly leather as per Nicole's info, is a bit reassuring.

Cheers,
Erling

Even if it's a train, you're in a 928, Man! Just haul up on your handbrake, do a bootlegger u-turn (try not to get hung up on the train tracks)... WOT (that's Wide Open Throttle)! and haul a$$ right out of that tunnel.
