The Great State of Noo Hampster has dictated that I remove the window tint from my car before I pass state inspection. I have accomplished same with a razor blade and I appear to have peeled off only the top layer. The rest of the sticky mess is still on the windows. I've tried turpentine, Goof Off and a razor blade and this is looking like a seroius PITA job. Anyone BTDT with some good advice?

Go find a local window tint guy and have them remove it, I had the same problem on a Pathfinder I bought for my daughter in Georgia, and the local guys got it all off for about $20!

Just did this on my door windows - tint all scratched from felt guides. I used #0000 steel wool and 91% isopropyl alcohol, and it was quite easy. Just keep turning to new sides on the steel wool. The steel wool didn't scratch the glass at all - of course, that's the finest wool they make to my knowledge.

Norton maske a very good adhesive remover that you can get at a paint store, however it will also remove paint if it sits long enough. I used it to remove all of the sound insullation from the inside of the tub and under the hood. I used a scraper and pealed the adhesive, without removing the paint. I tried other adhesvie removers and they attack the paint very quickly. I would think if you used a terrycloth rag and applied it to the surface, the glue would soffen and you could remove it with a razorblade.

You have somewhat created a mess for yourself but this technique should still work. I've tinted and de-tinted cars for over 20 years and this is the best way I have found to remove even the nastiest of boogered up jobs.
You will need:
Black trash bags
A couple razor blades
Bottle of simple green
sunlight (the hotter the better)
A Dobie Cleaning Pad - made by Scotch-brite *** It will not scratch the glass, I promise!
Take the trash bags and cut to size for the windows you need to do the removal on. (Do it on the outside of the glass carefully with razor blade) If your doing a big window, like the rear, you may need more than one bag and just overlap them. You want to cover the window as much as possible, even in the corners.
First, Saturate the inside of the glass with Simple Green and apply the trash bags to the inside of the glass. Pull the car into the sun for about an hour..it really depends on the heat but 30-60 minutes should do it. As you pull each bag off spray to keep the glass wet and scrub with the Dobie pad. You will need to rinse the pad a lot as it will get gunked up with glue and tint.
I have actually pulled tint from the glass as I remove the bags using this method. Since you have peeled the first layer, it will likely need some scrubbing to get it off.
I think you will be amazed at how easy this makes the process. Osmosis in action.
Good luck.

I wish a liquid product my company makes was available publicly. It's non-toxic and I have used it to remove every kind of tape and label and bumper sticker there is. It is 1-dodecene if anyone runs across it.

If you are a DIY go with my suggestion. If not bring it to a shop and let them do it...I'm still part owner in a shop so it warms my heart when someone will not use free advice.
