So, wouldn't a pre formed U shaped hose be under less stress to crack than a straight one curled into a tight curve? Are the pre formed ones for the newer cars the same radius as the one that needs to be used for the 86 model year? And if so, wouldn't it be better to use the newer style hose?

Yes.

No, the radius is tighter hence the preform requirement.

The 86 MY is different because of the distance between the fuel rails/damper/FPR at the rear of the engine.

off topic; XS11..............have probs with 2nd gear?

Don,

Adam and I just finished our first one of these recently. I don't know about the setup of the newer MYs, but when we got this 'U-shaped' one assembled from Roger's kit, it didn't bind or seem stressed at all in the same radius as the original piece.

It's true the original was constructed of a harder plastic 'liner' and a rubber outer section, but I know that Roger has tested these and also that after 20 years the old one is so brittle that any benefit of the harder inside section is offset by the degradation of the material.

Just as Malcolm said - 85 to 86 is a larger rad than the 87 to 95. 87 to 95 needs the smaller rad of the preformed hose.

Default Comes through again!

I just wanted to chime in to tell everyone how much I appreciate Roger and his help he is providing me with getting the first 86 Murf kit going. He is a class act and as you can read, is concerned about his fellow members. Three cheers for Roger!

Yep, he's so good you'd swear he was a Texan. But I guess he is, by choice.

I don't think anyone who's heard Roger talk would think he's a native Texan...! naturalized Texan - maybe... (whatever that means....)

Regardless - 928sRus is a great place to buy stuff...

Where did you get that tool?
