Default EFI Hose Kit - WARNING - Please Read

In the last 6 weeks I have changed suppliers for the small EFI hose clamps that are part of the Hose Kit.
Thanks to "Big Dave" we have found that the sizing of the new clamp is incorrect and in certain circumstances will not apply the required compression to satisfactorily compress the hose on to the spigot/end fitting.
As a precaution I am contacting all customers who purchased the kit and advising them of the same facts.

The "new" clamp is clearly marked with "ABA - Sweden - Stainless - 15.
When these clamps are used on the hose from the fuel cooler to the regulator (rear of engine) and the return line (front of engine) they "bottom out" in that the screw will be at the end of its travel.
Please check the clamps supplied and if you have this type of clamp please contact me at Roger@928sRus.com.
All clamps will be replace free of charge with the correct size.

After talking with the engineers at ABA (part of the Norma group) they found discrepancies in the online catalogue information displayed by their distributors.
In selecting the correct clamp the ABA 15 shows a range of 13mm to 15.3mm which is adequate for the compression of the 14.29mm OD hose while also allowing ease of assembly.
ABA (Norma) have changed the range of the 15 size to 13.5mm to 15.5mm which reduces the available compression in our application.
ABA (Norma) have recommended the 14 size for our application giving a range of 12.5mm to 14.5mm.

Many of you have purchased EFI Hose Kits from me in the past 3 months and I am issuing this statement as a precaution to ensure the safe operation of our cars.
Because the hose clamp bottoms out and spins with light pressure on the hose OD it is apparent that the hose clamp is not clamping.
The existing clamps on the car already are satisfactory and can be used with the EFI hose.

I am sorry for this inconvenience and ensure you of my best intentions at all times.
Thanks,
Roger

The issue is with some of the kits supplied in the last few weeks and can be checked by looking at one of the clamps. If the clamp says ABA - Sweden - Stainless - 15 then contact me.
If your clamps are marked with 13-15mm or AWAB 14 then you are good to go.

The existing clamps that Dave highlights are fine for the job.

Roger............I just checked the remaining clamps I have (I didn't use all 12 yet). 1 of the remaining is ABA 15 all others are stamped 13-15mm.

I know I was one of the first to receive your kit so its perhaps possible that the most recent aren't mixed?

I'll check the installed ones and feedback.

Default Hose Clamps

Hi Roger! This is a bummer for you in just grief & aggravation alone, but I appreciate the integrity you show by making a quick notification. You just sent me a fuel line hose kit and sure enough, all eight (8) clamps are 15mm. If this applies then please send me the new ones asap because it's going into the shop next mid week. Thanks.

Paul,
Thanks for the response you are on the list.
So as not to hold up the work in the shop the 15 is not OK for hoses highlighted in the above picture. However the original ones are OK - so you can use them.
As soon as the 14 size arrives they will be shipped.

Malcolm,
Thanks for the feedback - I do not see this as a problem at all as the clamps do actually clamp the OD of the hose, however on the one return line that Dave has highlighted they do not clamp it enough.
I am being over cautious here and erring on the side of safety.
I am not happy with the 15 clamp for the return hose and as stated they will be replaced FOC.
This apears to effect the 85 to 86 kits only as you point out

My first concern was to get the message out irrespective of the consequence.

Thanks,
Roger

As you can probably guess this issue has been my number one priority since I found the small discrepancy on the clamp size.
This appears to only effect the 85 to 86 kits and the one particular hose highlighted in Daves diagram.
I have checked the fitting of the 15 size clamp on the 87 to 95 kit on my own cars and they are fine.
The clamps are towards the end of the screw travel but nice and tight.
The other clamp positions on my 86.5 car seem OK with the 15 clamp but are also nearly bottomed out. Again I will check the 14 on this application as well.

I will provide 14 size clamps to those of you who may want to make a change on the 87 to 95 kits. However before I do that I will check them myself on my cars and report back.
I will receive the clamps towards the end of next week from Norma.

I may have over reacted a little on this issue, however I would rather be safe than sorry.
