Roger - I think you did exactly the right thing here - A vendor really shows what they are made of when things go wrong - and they have to communicate potentially bad news.

Jumping in right away with initial public communication of the potential issue & your intent - and then following though with impact details and offers of replacements as needed was perfect.

I wish everyone were so customer concerned. Why am I not surprised though...!

Mark,
"I used those on mine would adding the new clamps compromise the line in any way?"
Are you saying you used the ABA 15? If so it would only effect the two connections highlighted by Big Dave.
Best,
Roger

Default UPDATE 7-15-07

To set the scene the issue has been about the size of the clamp and its ability to apply compression to the OD of the hose sufficent to ensure the hose does not come of the barb when the system is under pressure.
To some extent this is a mute point because some of the joints had no clamping force in the first place, however I would not rely on that theory 100% and added the clamps to give the max. on saftey margin.
Norma have rectified the clamp discrepancy on usable compression on the 15mm clamp.
In the last week I have completed an install on both the 85 to 86 and 87 to 95 setups.
I concluded that on the 87 to 95 cars that the 15mm clamp is the ideal clamp once tightened onto the hose. The 14mm works as well. The pictures below show the difference. This is all in an ideal World where the clamp is correctly torqued in the area of 15 to 20 in Lbs. Most people including myself do not torque hose clamps but tighten them to what they consider goodantight.
As Big Dave has already proven one of the hoses on the 85 to 86 kit would be better served with a smaller 14mm clamp. This kit will be updated with 14mm clamps instead of the 15mm clamps. I will be sending out sets of 14mm clamps to those who bought this kit in the coming week FOC.

There is not a lot of difference in the circumference of the 14mm v 15 mm -3.14mm and only 1mm on diameter so it is never easy to define the exact clamp to use. In some cases the choice of clamp size can be a personal preferance.

In conclusion - I will be adding 4x14mm clamps to the 8x15mm clamps in the 87 to 95 set and adding 2x15mm clamps to the 10x14mm clamps in the 85 to 86 set. This will cover all eventuallities.

The first picture is the 15mm clamp on the 87 to 95 U Hose.
The second is the 14mm on the same hose.

I believe these clamps you're referencing are ALL on low-pressure hoses Roger. So it isn't that critical, while important.

Hi H,
Pressure in the stock system is circa 50 to 60psi which is considered very low pressure.

"So it isn't that critical, while important." I agree but adding the clamp makes the connection a lot more safe. Most EFI systems of the 928 era had no clamps and still worked perfectly.

IIRC the EFI hoses on the pre 85 cars are push fit only right at the injector. The two hoses on the rear regulators are clmp fit over a smooth pipe - no barbs.

Rog & Heinrich:

I'm a little confused about the statements about no clamp is probably needed anyway. I know there were no clamps on the original fitting because it used that semi-rigid plastic core that was pressed over the barbs and had A LOT of clamping force on its own. There is no way I can pull the plastic line off the barbs. It has to be sawed off. You're using rubber hose which easily slips over the barbs. So, clamps are needed, no?

Bill,
Most systems of the 928 era did not use clamps just relied on the push fit of the hose over the barbed fitting. Slides on easily one way but not the other.
The clamp just puts the "icing on the cake" and makes it a perfect connection.
"in the good old days" no clamp was needed. Just common sense to use a clamp today!
Thats all.

Fuel Lines are done for Zelda...

I went with crimpable ferrals instead of clamps.

I've had this tool and supplies for fixing Oxy-Acet hose for sometime now and when I got the kit to repair my fuel lines from Roger I thought I'd check to see if they would work, alas they do.

Roger's kit for the U-Hose used a molded U-shaped hose? Won't the pictured hose be in some trouble if bent into the U needed?

Dave,
That's the hose on the 85 & 86 cars.
The pre-formed hose is for the 87 to 95 cars.
Roger
