If the paint is starting to chip/peel a power washer works quite well. I stripped an old intake with a 1100psi domestic power washer. Took about 20 minutes - but you do get very wet in the process - all the nooks and crannys just turn the water jet around back at you.

Well, on the second set of cam covers, the results were not the same. Some areas ended up silver, but the effect was not very complete as most of the cover remained tan. Strange how the first set changed color so thoroughly.

The linked website talks about how this is a friendly alternative to xylene, non-toxic etc, then there's a remider that this is shipped as a hazardous material. For grins I tried some xylene, and it did nothing to my tan burn-through areas of the silver.
