Thats sounds good.

I know that my engine has been running rich for some time. Somehow, extra fuel is getting into the intake. I can both smell the excess fuel in the exauste, most of the time, and when I pull the plugs there is a light soot build up.

I've fixed the vacume system so the regulaters get the fuel presure right. That seemed to help a bit. I've run gobs of fuel injector cleaner through it. Next up, replaceing the start valve. Hopefuly that will fix the problem.

Hum... how am I going to find a hill to do Brian's test? There arn't any around here. Brian, do you have another test for that? Oh how I hope it comes up negetive!

You can roar down some open piece of road in 3rd gear, and then let off and coast down to <2000 rpm, then lightly step into the throttle. That should work. I'd have a passenger to watch for the puff of smoke, or better yet, have someone following in another vehicle to watch.

From the ensuing discussions, I'd look to the fuel issues, though. The light-off puff of smoke is NOT vague. Much more like "Right after start up, sometimes my 928 makes clouds of white smoke."

You don't necessarily have to use a hill. Just run at about 70mph for a minute or two and coast down to about 35mph then accelerate. It would help if you could have someone follow you since you might not see it.

I think I fixed it!

I did these three things, and the white smoke at start up seems to be gone.

New cold start injector.

New one wire universial O2 sensor.

And a new tank of gasoline. I had been running some very cheap Citigo stuff. I figure gas is gas, right? Maybe they had a bad load or something. After I got a new tank of Chevron, and run it around for a bit, it cleared up.

There was some blue smoke for a while, but I think that was just the extra antiseze burning up. It made blue smoke on the outside of the exaust system too.

I wish I had read Theo's web site before I went out and bought the O2 sensor. The part number for the Bosch universial three wire sensor is 13913. Would have been nice to have a 3 wire sensor, but a one wire will work np.

Anyways, thought you guys would be happy to know that it worked out so easy!

When the hose to my clutch let loose, I blew out a large cloud of white smoke. Could your hose or slave cylinder be leaking brake fluid?

Shouldn't be brake fluid. It could be leaking, but I haven't had any fluid disapere.

I can't figure out how the fluid would get into the exaust though.

If your master brake cylinder is leaking it goes into the vacuum booster housing and gets sucked into the induction system via the vacuum.

Oh, OK!

Well, I can be pretty sure that I'm safe there. I haven't lost any brake fluid. And I mean none at all.

:-)
