Question Hood Release

Does someone have a picture or anything to explain how the inside hood release handle pivot is supported. My handle is in place but only really attached to the cable, which is supported by the back plate. Because the pivot end of the handle is not mounted to anything the release will not work.

This is an '85 if there is a difference by model year.

I loooked at the PET but the pictures do not really show how the handle connects. There are two screws listed but I think they mount the assembly to the body. There are also 2 retaining clips listed, not sure where they go.

Any insight would be appreciated.

The inner release assembly is two pieces...the larger triangle shaped piece is screwed in place with two screws....then the release lever sits on a pivot and is held in place by a smaller triangle piece that snaps in place....at least thats how my 88 is....I've seen several with the upper piece missing so the lever just falls off...

OK, thanks for the information. I didn't see any pivot post on the large triagle piece but I also don't seem to have the smaller piece that snaps in place to hold things together. I will have to check around the footwell area to see if I can locate any stray parts but I suspect that this means I need to replace both the larger and smaller pieces.

Anyone tried to fabricate a new pivot with a screw and bushing?

Attempts to take these apart almost always result in the tabs that hold the outer cover to the inner breaking off.
