Reminds me of a Triumph m/cycle of years ago known as a Hurricane in NA............3 cylinder with 3 pipes up one side of the bike...........sweet sound.

It does have a cool sound, but I don't think my digital camera will record it very well. One nice thing, the idle burble is pretty quiet.

I've been wanting to make my own muffler for a while, and this was a no-cost, fun way to start, using recycled parts. I really want to make a variable geometry muffler.

 

Would a sprung loaded diversion flap in the muffler can work?
Closed at low exhaust pressure for quiet burble.
When stok'in on it the flap opens up to let them horses out.

Simpler than those electro hydromatic operated diverters in exhausts but probably a silly idea.

 

A vacuum actuator, like for an A/C flap, would work. If it's only spring loaded, the valve clatters, opening and closing as the exhaust pressure builds, then dumps. (BTDT)

 

Yamaha had a version of a flap on there bigger m/cycles known as EXUP.........cables and springs I believe.

 

My wifes 3-series BMW has a vacuum operated flap in one of the two tailpipes. It is supposed to quiten it down at idle and add some backpressure. The M3s do not have this, so I do not think it is for performance. If it was, the M3 would have it.

You could steal the design from a junker BMW muffler and start welding. The only thing you would need is to route the vacuum tube to some source in the engine bay.

 

A dual tip, or maybe a quad-tip, but not a tri-tip.

The number of exhaust outlets must always be divisible by 2.
