Official Necessary 928 Info Thread for New Owners (and everyone else!)
As I browse this forum I've noticed that there seem to be some very important tidbits about the 928 that every owner should know. Pretty much every day I read something that I should make sure to do or not to do that I had no idea about before. I've read the "Before you post" thread, but it seems to me like that thread is more focused on posting etiquette and cool knickknacks than vital, need-to-know information specifically about the car itself and caring for it well. I think if there was one main (stickied?) thread that some of our more knowledgeable members could add to it would be a big help for new owners. Hell, I know every time a new owner posts they almost always say something to the order of "is there anything specific I need to know?" A thread like this would eliminate that and almost definitely be more thorough than the one or two responses people get.
SO, if you guys feel this is a worthy undertaking, then post away with those informative bits of knowledge! If it gets good enough, maybe we'll get a sticky. And if I'm shooting in the dark here, well, it's not that hard to let a thread die.

Don't leave the only keys to the shark in it when it is running or you might be locked out. Really sucks. Also keep spare relays with you along with a printout of the fusebox and relays from 928gt.com in the glovebox along with a fuel pump relay jumper cable and a multimeter.

Get a shop manual, either in print or on CD...ummm...wait...I still need that too! Wasn't there someone on the list who had them available? Anyone knows who and for how much?

Most of it is 928-specific.

It's the only kind of maintenance for a car like this. Once you get ahead of the maintenance the car will always get you home.

On LONG TRIPS, take basic tools and extra "key" parts. For a few cars, this may require a small trailer. And enough money to get trailered back home. Once you gain confidence and get most of the gremlins worked out, you can skip most items. Rather than carry a spare fuel pump, I just install new ones, etc. But I still carry a spare MAF, Kempf tool, and halon fire extinguisher anyway...and maybe a few brains...and....and... and... The rear seats are too small for people anyway.

Every time you open the hood check that the circlips are attached to the headlight actuator levers. It can save you replacing a very expensive radiator.
