My wife gets very bent out of shape whenever I floor it- regardless of how fast I'm going- even 30 mph. The other night , on a short jaunt to the store, I decided to have little fun. At a stop sign, I dropped the clutch & nailed it, going around the corner-got very sideways- on the throttle hard-still in my lane, shifted into 2nd, finally straightened out, & just loped along. I probably never got above 30 mph, But it was fun- for me! She wasn't amused in the least, and I got a nice shot in my right arm for my trouble. That just made me laugh even harder.

My husband pointed this thread out to me and asked me to respond.

From a wife's point of view. "We just got back from Sharks at the Lake in Tahoe. I don't mind going fast on a straight, however, when you are going in excess by double or triple the speed posted and there are no guard rails just a cliff going off into the lake or into trees... I do not consider this a fun drive!!!" Whenever my husband is going too fast I ask him if vomit will stain his linen interior...that usually slows him down.

We did eat breakfast and lunch prior to each drive. However, keep in mind I am looking out the passenger window. Nauseaus, yes, but was I really close to vomiting...thank god I didn't have to find out.

I remember my first powerslide with the Mrs. very well. Our dog's ear had just been bitten off (just the tip, but wow, does that bleed a lot) and I went into ambulance driver mode in my 9-5 Aero. Maybe a little over-the-top, but if you're a dog owner, you understand the response. Most Saabs (all are FWD except the 9-7, which isn't really a Saab) plow with mega understeer all day long; I managed to get the tail to whip around at 50 mph taking a left turn at a very busy intersection (I had a green arrow and was the only car approaching the light to turn); caught it perfectly and we continued on our way to the animal hospital at a generous clip. My brother in law was in the back seat holding our dog; my wife sat in stunned silence in the passenger seat; all he kept saying was "holy sh*t that was awesome" over and over again.

My wife is like a loud "Good Angle" in my ear.....just as im thinking..."if thiers a space im passing"...she says..."Dont even think about it"" i can get away with spirited driving in the country or driving 100 or so on the open road with little to know traffic, but thats about it...of course some times it just cute to watch her do the roller coaster stare... as i do a safe but quick pass...

In South Africa almost everyone owns a dog or dogs. We would likely have taken a clothes peg and clamped the vein closed and duct taped the ear up against his head, then taped a towel over his head so he couldn't scratch the thing off, and gone for a walk with him.

I disagree H. I think this is a not so subtle way the wife is letting the husband know she needs driver training in the worst way. It's hard to hold someone responsible for exceeding their limits when they have no idea there even are limits, let alone having never had the opportunity to find out what they feel like except immediately prior to having an accident.

If she had a chance to experience the limits of traction in a safe and controlled situation, she would have known she was on the verge of losing control and might have prevented the incident all together.

At least that's how I look at it. Of course, YMMV

Ironically, she loves roller coasters.

My revlimiter doesn't have any problem with speed in and of itself. Coming down 80 from Tahoe yesterday we were going at a a "spirited" pace (Tim & Stan know what I mean) and she dozed off! It helps to keep ones lines, braking, etc. smooth.

OTOH, she has a real problem in the very tight twisties, e.g. SITP funride or some of the roads on the Peninsula. What gets to her is rapid changes in direction, especially right-left-right twisties.

Yes, i am happy to report that she took two, not one, but two ICSCC race driving schools. One in the rain! She took them in 911 5-sp.

I have to say, SWMBO drives pretty well.
Sure gives a guy confidence when riding shotgun.
