Post What is it worth?

Hi folks.

First post...

What would be the collective wisdom on the worth (ie...what should I pay) of a fairly good condition (good body, good paint, mostly good mechanical condition) of a 81 928?

Current owner has no record of swapping ball joints or motor mounts so I am going to assume they need swapping...Timing belt / Water pump recently done...

Thoughts?

Brian

Brian -

You hit on a sensitive subject regarding value. From the "Enthusiast" point of view - it's what your willing to pay.

From a Monetary (Bank) point of view - the best estimate I found is at Edmunds.com. I do not use kelley Blue Book for anything except a paper weight and they usually low ball 928's (I think it's a conspiracy) If it is a Euro Shark, the value will be a little higher - how much, is hard to determine.

Thanks...I offered the owner 6k and he was depressed. I guess I will just wait and see if his mood changes; more power to him if he gets his price.

I agree it is worth what you will pay; I just don't want to over pay as time is on my side (I am in no hurry)...

FYI you may want to pick up a copy of the current EXCELLENCE magazine. There is a feature article on the market update for 928's. It may give you some ideas and help you convive the seller of the real value. E-mail me a fax number and I'll send you the article if you like. gyezbak@comcast.net

Regarding the chart from Excellence - note that the S4's faded into oblivion after 89.
