vw dome light question

Mark,
If you are talking about the light itself - I've purchased 4 on eBay (Passat dome light search, as I recall). I got them from wrecking yards usually, and specified I wanted the pigtail connector as well. I requested this before bidding, and was successful in getting the connectors each time. I did have to paint them to match the headliner - black plastic paint, and they look perfect after 3 years.

Hi James,
When my dome light broke in my 928 S4, it shorted out and blew the fuse.
I did some research and found the part number the for direct replacement from VW. I ended up buying a replacement light from a guy on eBay for $24, "Rear Reading Dome Interior Light VW Passat 98-05 Beetle"
I got him to send me the connector/pigtail for the light as well. I guess he picks these parts from VW junkers.
His web site is: http://www.VWParts4Sale.com
Guy's name is Blake, icdubparts@gmail.com
The wire colors matched the Porsche, so connecting it up was a snap. It was a snug fit, but it worked great and the light fixture feels better made.
Hope this helps,
Joe Taylor

I stock the VW lights in Black & Grey for $37 each. New of course.
I can get Tan but do not stock them.

I did it differently on the last couple than the rigging that I did in my picture above.
I ended up getting some GM connectors that slid over the 3 pins real snug, crimped them on to the factory wires and installed. It would be much better to get the factory connector, someone else will have to come up with that part number.

Hi Jeffrey,
It looks just the same installed as the Porsche one. The difference is that its all plastic with no parts to break and come into contact with the metal roof of the car.
The only other difference is that to turn on the light, you tilt the lens left to right, vs. front to back on the Porsche dome light.
I have a photo of the light (uninstalled) in my orginal post on this:
https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...fuse-24-a.html
When you see it, the VW version is a much better made light and will never fail, vs. the Porsche one. When the lens breaks in the orginal Porsche light some of the connections come loose and can contact metal.
I hope this helps.

housing (3 pin) - 893 971 633 [update: I ordered these housings, and they don't mate up with Roger's lights.]
wires - 000 979 225
The 225s are jumpers with a female connector at each end. Make your own with 2.5mm wire, 3-7212s from here (£35 a hundred), and a crimper.

These do not sell in huge volumes so I do not plan on making the pigtails by hand.
The lights have gone up in price and are now $44 each.
The connector with the 3 wire pigtail is $11.
Have all in stock and ready to go.
