The next 928? Picture
Here is picture I found of what is supposed to be the new 928 Concept. From the proportions it sure looks like a front engine V8.
Word is a 2 seater with a cayenne V8 and 180mph top speed.
Here is link to the webpage with the info

Too me it looks like a cross between a Ferrari Testarossa and Benz Kompressor. Cool.
If it is indeed the new 928 and does have the bi-turbo s Cayenne motor. Gee Willickers Batman - she'll blow the batmobile away!.
We'll see in 2005

First thing: let's get the flip-up (or at least plain round) headlights back. Those tear-drop shaped lights have gotta go.
The more it looks like a Boxster, the less I'm going to want it.

Looks more like a Ferarri Maranello to me but a bit less bulky. Was the 928 styling ever a concern of the designers? Must have been if they are considering keeping every new vehicle they make looking late model 911-ish from the front. No doubt that'll be in the $100K+ range new...question is...will it sell, will it hold it's value and could it possibly revitalize resale value of 928s....

I read in Excellence that they are planning a 911 with an 8 Cyl. They said that the 911 had a 4, went to a 6 cyl and now is going to an 8 cyl. They had a picture that looked like the same car only from the rear - it was wider to accommodate the 8 cyl.

I dunno...I kinda like it!
Dave, sad fact is that pop-up headlights are mostly goners. Too much maintenance, too much stuff. I miss 'em too.
I'm curious about the exit vents aft of the front wheelwells but the apparent absence in the rear. Brake vents or cooling/engine/turbo outlets?

Can you imagine the rear end swing around that a 911 will have with a V8 in it???

I think that this is one of two possibilities. (as if someone asked my wise old opinion )
#1 Photoshop-this does in fact appear to be a merging of characteristics from the 911 and the boxster. Both cars share those once innovative, but now overly used headlight setup. Stick some slots on the side and poof, hit send. Note that the "originating" page as linked under the picture when you go to it says this is a rumor. Some wacko having a good time at our(928/Porsche fans) expense.
#2 Porsche R&D has given up. From the folks who brought us the Porsche Escalade, now show no interest in developing anything original. Now keep in mind, coming out with a SUV, while admittedly a nessitity for financial survival, is hardly original considering the extreme popularity of such urban hulks and the fact that everyone makes em. Anyway, this is not a anti Cayenne rant, just pointing out that considering this unforseen (10 years ago) development, and the fact that the 911 headlights were stuck on the front of the otherwise great boxster, why not continue this new trend of mediocre and compromise. After all, they are selling to a public who will buy anything (except the 928 of course) and that is fine by me. It keeps our community all the more original and unique.

Hey, forget the looks for a moment. Imagine the new V8 up fron with a torque tube to a bad *** 6 speed in the rear with a similar chassis set up a la 928. With that kind of weight distribution and power it would be a killer. I'll take one! Except I'd have to wait till the used market to afford one. Better make that an automatic, I'll be too old.

Honestly, i think they could really get away with using the GTS body with a just a few minor tweeks. Trust me, Im sure somewhere around Stutgartt you would find sketches for the 96-00 MY 928 GTS..GTR. I was in the local dealership last week (they have jag and aston as well) and the Porsche fleet, while it looked good, lacked the front engine coupe in the show room floor line up.
Our day will come, there will be a front engine V8 sports car again. I just hope they take a bit of a tangent in the styling, as they did with the original 928.
