timing tensioner
new to the game. bought 82' 928s euro. the black cover/seal on the tensioner is broken. Where can I get a re-build kit?? that part, or is a new tensioner the only way to go. Car has not run for a few years. I have all new belts and gears, seals and waterpump. It looks good sitting next to my other toy 68'datsun 2000 roadster. Want to get it going and not afraid of rolling up my sleeves. Thanks

Can I assume that it's a hard plastic looking peice? It's actualy a rubber peice that strank and got hard. Once it did that, it gets brittle, and then its no good.
If so, you can get it at www.928intl.com I think Devek and 928 specalists also have it, but I'm not sure.
I've got a warning though. Did the T-belt break or strip while the motor was running? The US 4.7l engine is a zero-tollarange engine. If there was any build up, or if the head was ever machined, or something, there may have been contact between the valves and the pistion.
My 83's T-belt broke, and I got a little lucky. No build up, no machining. Mine was clear. Several other owners I've talked to had the same good deal. One had build up, and it cost him quite a few thousand. Cross your fingers, freind!

You should never replace the timing belt without rebuilding the tensioner. You need the tensioner cover, P/N 928.105.552.02 @ $4.95 and the clamp for the cover, P/N 999.512.322.02 @ $4.70 (plus shipping). (These are for '77 - '82 cars.)
If you need the belt tension gauge (and if you don't have one, you need it), we sell the Kempf gauge for $59.
Call Jeannie at (828) 766-9280 to order these or ANY part available from Porsche for your 928, plus many aftermarket and OEM parts and accessories.
