Post 928 vs 911

Guys, go look at a post with this title on the 911 board. Our sharks are being described as overweight problematic and ill handling in comparison to 911s. Ed has made some great posts in defense of our sharks but we need input from ther rest of the guys (snowball, John Struthers, etc).

Dear Carlos etal:
I think the subject has been beat nearly to death. The tone of anti-928ism has subsided substantially, and I think the staunch 911 supporters are either licking their wounds or hoping that the debate will just go away.

Personally, I think several 928ers have made good points, and we can hold our head high and leave their BBS to them without a sense of defeat on either side. After all, our respective P-cars are all kindred spirits.

In an effort to leave the doors of diplomacy open, I recommend that further 928 flag waving be restricted to the 928 BBS.

What do you Sharksters think?

That appears to be the appropriate diplomatic maneuver Ed.

ED: I'm a V8 guy I think that the 911 purist read to many books and think that they have a race car on there hands. I believe the 928 is a better car for the dollar than a 911 unless you have a twin turbo. For what its worth in this months european car october issue it talks about the V8 m3 kicking a$$ on the 911's and also it talks about the 944 turbo may be the best porsche for the buck. I think the 911 guys are a little upset that the 6 banger is about to be replaced with guess what a V8. I sure can't wait for Abby's 928 to get running so he can STRAP SOME 911 A$$.

911's are glorified VWs and they drive like them too. sputter, sputter, brake fluid leaks, pedals emerging from the floorboard, ugh.</STRONG>
Maybe pre 964 911s.

I havn't seen my 928 for over 1 year because of further engine mods.
But not too long ago, I was crusing down the road at a normal pace. A Trans-Am and a turbo Supra were dicing it up and tried to get me in on the game. I resisted for a while, but I couldn't resist the temptation. I let them pull ahead a couple houndred feet before I nailed the throttle. Before I knew it we were up to 155, the Trans-Am and turbo Supra were door to door at 155 and not accelerating. I flashed my passing lights at the Trans-Am a few times before he would concede. I passed him and accelerated past 160 before I let off the gas. I think they were a little surprised to say the least. After backing off, they both resumed their game down the road.
Funny thing, not more than ten seconds after they passed me, there was a sheriff coming the opposite way down the road. I figure they were still close to 150 before they noticed the cop and smoked their brakes. Get this, the sheriff flashed his lights and didn't even bother to give chase. I'm sure, given my luck, had I still been in the mix he would have ticked me and let the others go.

This story is purely fictional and meant only for entertainment purposes. Had to give the disclaimer!

Carlos,

On the 911/928 debate(?).
Two timeless and unassignable quotes:

" Never argue with a Drunk "

" Mines' bigger than yours "

The real show and tell will not be on the boards, in magazines, on the track, or over a beer. It will be on the street for those who wish to clear the air. No, it may not be the 'PROPER', 'SAFE', or 'LEGAL' route to take but, it is an everyday reality and it provides a difinitive result.

Having said that, is there something inherently wrong with the 911 headlight adjusters? I always have to go a little faster when I pass one or pull away from one that's attempting gain on me.
You know, one headlight out of adjustment and at least one headlight jiggling around like an old motorcycle on a bumpy road.
Annoying, really!

Snowball,
Is that the one who showed up when you cleaned the contacts on the kickdown
switch relay?
Whip me, beat me,
I need love.
Spank me with...
your leather glove.

Keep em' rolling.

I read most of the posts in the 911 section, and there are some good, objective ones from the people who have had experience with both.
I have to laugh at some of the posts from people with an opinion but no experience with 928's. But really, they are both great automobiles, and I think most of us would be very pleased to drive one or the other, and particularly pleased if we could drive a bunch of different ones (preferably on the autobahn)---I know I would.
