Would be cool to have the first 928S model that came off the line... the Euro version IMO it was the first decent HP 928 and got the ball rolling for the S4, GT and GTS... wonder what color it was???
Seems to me I read somewhere that Porsche produced a few all aluminum 928's to be raced privately. I'd think one of those would be high on the list if it can be documented that they still, if ever, existed. If not, perhaps one of the earlier models that actually were raced; I think one led LeMans in it's class for quite a while at some point back in the early '80's.
When you say "all aluminum" do you mean, they reproduced the whole body shell in aluminum?
I'm not sure one can do that without redesigning many pieces of the body.

It might not be first one made but there is very early '80 MY ROW S pictured in group photo in '80 MY ROW brochure. Its some dark metallic color, could be black, dark green or something like that. Reason why I think its really early car is that it doesn't have normal flat disk wheels like '80 MY production model had. Instead it has version of flats which has round hole for air valve in middle of one of the spokes, not in middle of opening like in production wheels. IIRR these slightly different style wheels were used in 931. In other S model pics at this same brochure cars have normal looking flats.

They did it as practice to see if it could be done and how much weight it would save, which was a lot of kg's. Two men could lift raw body shell off the ground. They did two bodies and one of them was turned into race car some years later. I think its one which raced in Sebring but I'm not sure about it.
Every known picture of this car is on my website......
I had seen other pictures somewhere... I swear they were on 928s4vr but they are not there anymore. They were clearer and crisper and showed off the interior better. I may have seen pics in a magazine somewhere along the way too... I am getting old though so it is possible that I just dreamed it all!
I will say any ultra low mileage well maintained 928 will eventually be collectable. Blue 82 is a prime example of this, yeah it has a unique color but the bottom line is that a comparable car with high miles and wear will not bring in the same money. It's a time warp and you hardly see them like that anymore.
Otherwise if we assume low mileage vs low mileage I would say any GTS 5spd followed by Clubsports, GT's next, then the 86.5 and the very early cars last.
just curious, what do you guys think the 10 most sought after 928's would be? based on rarity, value, history, etc? or just the 10 most sought editions? obviously extremely early cars, and late run gts's, but what else?
I think Louie Ott's car would occupy most of the spaces on my list. I would probably reserve at least one spot for a 1993 Amazon Green Metallic 5 sp with a few go fast mods.

Factory or not...Louie Ott's car would be on my top ten (for one heck of a driving car!). I had a garage queen and I didn't drive it much. Collectibles are nice, but tearing up the road is worth something too.
I'd take mine, as number one on the list. Also, Louie's for fun. Stan Shaw's and David's car's. A '77 in drivable shape. Euro '86 with S4 brakes. GTS's any year, 5-spd. A Porschevy and Blown' car. And I'd take the very brown car.
I was digging around in the archives and found this thread from way back in 2007/8. Back then, Pearlglanz had not been found nor had the pre-production press cars 1, 2, 4, 6 & 11 - several CS's my XX8 GT & the GTE - - - The first GTS and a bunch of gorgeous low mile 95's - - - plus a few elusive 84 automatics. ;-)
With perspectives changed, the market matured and values soaring, I'd like to see how things have shifted in peoples minds. I'm obviously an enthusiast and collector who often drives my cars.
What are the favorites in 2022?
In no particular order mine are:
#1
#4 (its really in good condition)
Any 95 GTS 5-speed
Pearlglanz
The GTE (Club Sport, SE, GT Prototype)
Club Sports and other CS prototypes
The first GTS
The First XX8 GT Wide Body
The Louie Ott GT
The big racers with history like Devore, Anderson, Tilo, Simard, Faucett etc.
Darn that's 10+++ cars already with all of the ultra low mile survivors not even mentioned.
Great revival! I need to think about it, but no brainer for #1, #2, #4, #6, #11, Pearlglanz, William's Minerva, Derek Bell's prototype CS. More to follow.
