GPS is great.....but driving by map is the classic way to go...more interaction with your copilot and "getting losts" is half the fun. I thought about getting a gps for my rides but i think i would only use it in my Audi on solo drives. Classic maps my be out to pasture, but they are still way more interactive then a small box telling you were to go.

I bought a Magellan Roadmate 2000 for $200 last week. This is the base unit and still still works great for me. I am hopeless driving around the streets of Portland (I live in the city across the border from Portland). It has saved me tons of time. Don't forget the gas that you will save over the years. It pays for itself very quickly.

Brian:
IMHO if you want to place well in the ORR's, you need to time yourself tighter than the update interval with a GPS. This said, the GPS is a great help for the navigator to know approximate distances to timing points and turns. It's also fun to know your GPS true top speed if you are going for "broke".
Of the GPS units, I like the Garmin 276C / 376C units. The display is larger with still good resolution. Add a "Ram Mount" and it's a great versatile unit.
Good luck with your car "no run" sluething.

Brian,
The least expensive GPS that will work well in ORR is a Garmin GPS III plus. It will give you your speed in tenths even over 100 mph. They are discontinued now but readily availale on Ebay. We also have a Garmin 2720 but they are more expensive and have a lot of features you will never use in ORR anyway.
Maps are useless in ORR, but pick up at least 3 stopwatches that have a cumulative function and you are set.
See you on Friday

I thought you had a 2820....but maybe thats the 2007 version?? Having the GPS top speed sure is nice.....but i would imagine a rollbar-harness-fire extingusher-seats are more important than a GPS for ORR anyway....any results yet?
