Post I didn't knock on wood....

Well......
Now MY odometer seems to have clicked over its last tenth. No resets while moving.
Guess I 'll get a spare AND have this one rebuilt.
On the O2 sensor replacement- a universal- from 928 INT'L. It hasn't arrived yet but should be here on Monday. Do I just clip the wires and add spade and female connectors, heat shrink and call it a day. or
what? If the reset instructions aren't in
the owners manual -same 928 INT'L shipment- does anyone have the answer? I just replaced the battery so I KNOW that it does not auto reset by disconnecting the battery.
Along the same vein... I am guilty of living with a fritzed out speedo unit - had a friend in a vette' run me down the road at a multitude of speeds, and his wife Motorola'd
the speeds while I recorded tach readings in 2nd and 3rd gears... no tickets yet!
Anyhow, is there anything I should try before pulling the pod and trying to clean/
adjust the contacts on the board? Is there a speedo amp. like the tach amp.? BTW the speedo does work intermittently, albiet rarely and appears to be spot on with the earlier tach readings until I get to 65=68mph then she dumps off line again.
Thanks guy's.

Snowball,

I hit the re-set several times when I pulled the coil and amp for cleaning last month. I did not know what the function was at the time and for some reason thought it had something to do with the Tach amp(?).
In any case I, gently, bottomed the reset several times. Seeing as how the the O2 warning light still comes on I guess the computer is checking the nut behind the wheel
. Do you know if running with a crippled O2 unit affects gas milage/fuel mix via the computer or is it merely a high tech heat sensor? Have you messed around with your fuel/air delivery systems at all?
Other than tightening intake/vacuum hoses, fuel filter and the other minor stuff, that is. Any injector work/replacements, idle/fuel air mix/injector flow balancing?
I'm not up to anything, just curious.
If I'm laid up long enough to get light duty
I might get started on a sealed, large volume
twisted venturi system for the Early sHARKs and I might have to do some fuel/air mixture tweaking from baseline.
Know anyone who has tried jumping the damaged 'foil pac' by means other than soldering? I used to repair heat tape with a jumper of 'REAL COPPER' paint - more like a paste - then recovered with thin adhesive backed acetate. Resistance in this case could be a problem.
Later, Keep em' rolling.

The computer won’t reset because it read a hard code, a total failure of the 02 sensor or wire circuit, it’s running your fuel system in a open loop control mode, no input from the sensor that failed. The 02 sensor is one of the most important input of any car. It controls the air/fuel ratio by means of the fuel injector pulse time.

Less 02 in exhaust = voltage increase = computer reduces fuel = lean mixture.
More 02 in exhaust =voltage decrease=computer increases fuel=rich mixture. Closed loop control. Any electric repair should be soldered .by an air/fuel ratio gauge to make tuning adjustments.

Thanks for the info. On the calipers, $500 for the adaptors, $125 each rotor, not bad.
I’m running 18” tires. The page I scanned was from Porsche description of operation manual, it looks the same as your 500sel manual, MB 6 bolt pan (722.4) trans, and 928
(A28) trans are the same. A28s are calibrated different, more hp.

Nice to see you are beginning to loosen up. I was beginning to worry about you. I thought maybe the stress of being a mediator or not being able to go tuna fishing was making you……..
Did you make get your trans fixed?

Thumbs up

Steve and Snowball,

Thanks and I'll solder.
Seems like purchasing 'the books'is a necessity and will do so post haste. I didn't think my learning curve was going to be like rock climbing but, there you have it.

John,

You might want to try cleaning the foil at the connector plugs before going any farther.
Use an eraser, or maybe some 800+ grit sandpaper.

The foil printed circuit for the instruments is also available at 928 Intl for $55ish new, as trying to fix it is almost impossible.

good luck,

Greg
