Rear Panel Tool Kit
Does anyone have a list of tools that go into the tool "panel" at the rear of the car. The PO of my car didn't leave me much ; I have the tow hook (which has come in handy) and one other thing that looks like a rod for something .
I'd like to restock it, but I don't know what I'm supposed to have in there. Help please. Thanks.

Pliers, screwdirver handle and a flat and a philips head screw driver shaft insert for that handle, five pair of open end wrenchs - sizes: 8-9, 10-11, 12-13, 14-15, 17-19, a long stainless steel plug wrench and a short shaft to use as a "T" handle. Also, some have a speed-wrench handle. YMMV.

Beth: On my car the pliers were missing, and I ordered brand new ones. However, they do not fit into the holder all that well - I'm not sure, if the older ones fit better. Either way, these tools can be very expensive, so your best bet would be to try and find a complete set from a wrecked car.
Note: from '91 onwards the screwdriver handles were red instead of yellow.

I've found I don't like the open ended wrenches much, and I've only used one set of plyers that are worse. This was because they where very easy to break.
My suggestion would be to forgo most of the Porsche replacements, if you realy expect to use the kit. The only thing that is of any real use is the spark plug wrench, and the screw driver. Maybe the towing eye, but as of yet, I can't screw mine into the socket because the da*n GTS bumper gets in the way.
As an aside, I replace the spark plug tool with a universial joint, long socket extension, a spark plug socket, and a cross over from 1/2" drive to 1/4" drive. This away I can use the torque wrench I keep for the lug nuts on the spark plugs too.
The non Porsceh replacement may not fit as nicely, or at all, but you will thank youself if you ever have to use them on the side of the road.
Good luck.

I recently replaced my spark plugs, tried to use the supplied spark plug tool, found it did not go into the access hole in the valve cover, to remove the plugs! Had to use other tools. Anyone else experience this?
I also carry a 1/2" drive torque wrench, with a 19mm 6-point deep socket, and 1/2" drive breaker bar. Easier to remove the wheel lugs when having a flat tire, and the torque wrench properly sets the lug's torque. Be sure to zero the torque wrench after use! Or, if someone has experience with these, I think I've seen "pre-set" torque-ing sockets......

The OD of the socket is ever-so-slightly smaller than the spark plug tube on my S4, so the plug is guided perfectly into the threads without fail. With the pinned socket there's no way to leave the socket down the hole when you are done. 3/8" drive so the torque wrench fits easily too. All in all a perfect mate for the job.
I don't find it in a quick search of their website at www.harborfreight.com, but I did see them in the store and also in their sale catalog last weekend. Less that $10 IIRC.
HTH!
