There are only 3 LH2.2 adapted SharkTuners in the US at present. NC, NV and OR.

 

Andrew Olson tried to hook up his shark tuner to my 87 S4 a couple days ago. The tuner would not power up. It worked fine on Chaad's 88. Don't the 87 and 88's use the same connector? Also, could there be something wrong with my car?

#1. I don't have a shark tuner, but if you get boosted... we might have to go halfsies on one. WHat I have is Theo J's diagnostic computer.

#2. I found that although you have the port for the diagnostic hook-up, the early 87LH's do not have the diagnostic capabiliites. Your's must be one of the early ones. Just the luck of the draw I guess.

To use a diagnostic tool you need to swap the EPROMs in both LH and EZK to MY88 ones. I can supply, or anyone with a SharkTuner can blow a couple of standard chips for you.

 

From what I read, the closest SharkTuner to you may be in NC? I don't know who has it or if it's optimized for your particular car. I'd hope that Dave R has it and can offer that service.

Just an upgrade for those interested in SharkTuner developments.

We have made some significant progress on the EZ-F ST option in the last few days. Great work by Niklas. Now we have overcome a rather difficult problem we hope the remaining parts with be relatively straightforward, although time consuming.

I'm looking forward to using this part of the ST on my own 86 Euro S2 :-)

I am reconsidering ways of making the SuperMAF conversion a more cost effective option. At present the conversion is contained within a recalibrated MAF. What I did not recognise with this apporach is that in effect I have created a single sourced but life limited component. I believe from a marketing point of view this was a mistake.

I am proposing to package the SuperMAF electonics in a self contained unit, so that it can then be wired in series between the cars MAF connector and a standard MAF. This then solves the problem of interchangablity of MAFs. Ideally a reclaibrated MAF should be used, but if you are SharkTuning anyway, you can take up the errors in MAF calibration of an older MAF as you tune.

This solution would probably retail at around 150 USD.

The only problem with this approach is the male 6 way MAF connector (like the one on the MAF) which I cannot find a source for at present. I can provide a flying lead with the 6 way female plug to do from the new box to the cars MAF, but the lead in the cars cable form would need to be changed to a newer type of (similar) waterproof Bosch connector.

Would this be acceptable ?

I could provide an adaptor lead to enable the SuperMAF unit to be bypassed if required at any time.

 

John IMHO, a new better lead at the harness can be only an improvement, and we should consider creating new components with expensive, rare, inferior older bits ONLY as absolutely necesary. Not much choice at the female (MAF) side, but the new converter unit with better leads would be fine, if not desirable.

would Authority chips already meet that scenario? Iirc, there is only one set of chips sold to cover all years of the S4

 

The Autothority chips I have seen are based on MY88 and so do have diagnostics.
