I know stock S4 brakes are 302mm & "big reds" are 322mm and are direct bolt on's......but whats bigger than big reds and still mounts in the stock location? Are 993 turbo brakes bigger than big reds?? What about some of the newer 6 piston brakes like on the GT3? Do they fit directly or require adaptors....same thing for the "Grand Turismo" kits from Brembo??
Mark Anderson runs 14" "F50" brakes from Brembo...but do they mount on a stock hub? What about some of the 15" or 380mm kits?
I've been thinking about an S/C and figure my brakes will need a boost to keep up...but is "bigger than big reds" worth the extra $$$ since big reds aren't that expensive really?
Would any of Porsches PCCB brakes fit...or even be worth it?

GT3 and GT2 brakes are extremely difficult to mount to late 928 hub. Their mounting bolts are just barely further appart than in S4 etc hubs. This means easiest way to mount them is to change to early style hub.

Other problem in GT3 and GT2 brakes is that their mounting points are not symmetrical compared to hub center point. This makes adapter design even more complex.

Have you seen big reds in person?! They are friggin' massive. Can't imagine needing anything bigger to stop an S4, s/c'd or not (unless you're going so fast that you need to be considering adding a parachute!).

Don't get me wrong, huge brakes are always a good idea. The more stopping power the better. But I can't see how the big reds don't absolutely give you all the stopping power you could need unless you're running well over 500HP and consistently race driving at 150+ mph. They're simply massive brakes, and a direct bolt on.

IIRC PCCB rotors are $8k.
I think it was John Veninger who said there is nothing wrong with S brakes except they fade a little more than S4 and GTS brakes in longer faster races.
Looking at Erkka's pic, I wonder if GT2/GT3 brakes will fit over the caliper mounts on S spindles.

I believe JV said the S4 brakes suffered some fading at Road America...
I had S brakes on my full weight 928 on the street for 10 years, and never felt the need for anything more.
I do need brakes for the front of my race car now, as I sold the S4 brakes off of it. And with the expected 500+rwhp, I do feel the "need" for bigger brakes now

I agree with Stan- S brakes on the street are fine, but repeated hard braking on the track will overheat them after a few laps... Biggest difference I noticed after switching to 13" rotors and S-4 sized calipers was a much more controllable pedal- no "stomping" on the brakes, just a nice easy "squeeze" and pedal that stays rock-hard for a full session... If you stomp these, you get instant lockup, and make your tires square! Ask me how I know...

Larger rotors seem to give a better feel and modulation as you approach lock up but for ABS equiped cars that matters little...(Anderson deleted the ABS on the race car)
