I remember the first 2: the yellow Ferrari following by the green Lamborghini etc. The TT and GT3 guys invited us for a GTG at Little Switzerland around that time so I guess they were heading there.

It was the best of times... it was the worst of times.

THE WORST:
About 10 minutes into my journey... THUNK! WTF!? Okay, car is still running. WTF is the big black thing that just bounced out from behind the car? Oh crap, dash is lit up like a friggen christmas tree... volt meter is 0. Hmmmm...

Call Camboinc, "Dude! My car just friggen blew up!"

"What?"

"My car just blew up! I'm pulling off at Ford Rd. Meet me at the first gas station on the right."

"OK"

I get there, open the hood, crank pulley is missing. (BTW, the crank pulley is the main one that drives the alternator, power steering, and air pump.) My first thought was that the crank bolt backed out. But then I saw the bolt was still there with a small remanent ring of the pulley still there. MF!

I made a few calls, and hit BigDave up for his pulley since his motor is out. So we ran around and get BigDave's pulley and go back to the gas station. We tried to install it right there, but upon tightening the bolt, the pulley must have slipped off the shoulder that centers it, and when we tightened it down, it pinched the side of the pulley and buggered it up.

Ok, decision time. Do I get one overnighted to me and drive down? Or hop in with Camboinc? If there's anything else wrong with the car... I'll be dead in the water with no ride to SITM. If I go, sure I'm a passenger, but I still get to have fun. A bird in the hand... so I go.

Brought the car back to my house (it happened within 5 miles of my house, lucily), transfer stuff over, and hit the road.

THE BEST:
What can I say, it was friggen awesome. Rolled in to Alcoa about 12:30am and got to see the Texas Posse, Mel Ward and his wife, H, Ben, Fabio, and a few others. Stayed up to greet Tim Murphy and Z who rolled in at 1:30AM and ended up staying up to 3AM.

Next day we finally roll out of bed and get to the Dragon about an hour after the Texas crew had head out. Had a little traffic, but the Dragon was good. After the Dragon, we took some other twisty roads that were just unbelievable! Wow! Murphy and Comboinc had major chubby's. So did I!

Finally rolled into Banner Elk about 5PM and proceeded to drink a whole lot of beer and ate a ton of pizza. It was all good!

The next day we tackled a few technical issues and finally made it up the mountain at 12PM. Got to see a bunch of familiar faces and many new faces. I know I missed a few people, but hopefully I'll get to see you next year.

On the drive to dinner, we realized that we blew out Camboinc's suspension the day before. So the rear end was all over the place, which also probably had something to do with the sagging rear end. No matter, we still managed to have fun!

Made it to Dave and Jeannie's and drank some beer and watched the Piston's lose. Got my new pulley and a few other upgrades. We decided to leave before we got too lit to drive.

I thought we were coming back to Dave and Jeannie's this morning, but when you're the passenger, you don't always get to choose. So thanks again to DR and Jeannie for a super duper event! I'll be sure to have my car there next year!

BTW, I accidentally left the shrine at the event on Saturday, so if anyone knows where it went, can you please let me know?

After being parked on I-81 for about 2.5 hours and driving in pouring rain for 3 hours, I'm home. Who new a tractor trailer could melt in half?
1. fun with pressurized tubing.
2. part of DR's Madonna wardrobe collection ca.1985
3. samples of Hans's interior
4. feeding frenzy

Another great SITM for me!

My personal highlights:
-Hangin' out with John, Glen and the rest of the Maryland crew for a great drive!
-Had a philosophical conversation with Heinrick.
-Had a technical discussion with DR, and the Kempmeister.
-Got to trade-up with John and drive his beautiful '85.
-All the rennlisters that I got to meet, just too many to recall... I think I'll carry a notebook next year just to record it.

Oh, and the little foam 928's I did on the CNC at work went over well! Andrew still owes me a ride, I call dibs for first ride in '08.

DR's new Twinscrew Supercharger for the 16 valve cars is awesome... now, if I can just sell this extra kidney and pick one up!

I must say, that is a beautiful pic! And there is no mistaking what that car is, even tho it's shrouded mostly in silhouette! Great shot!

Here's a short video of those supercars when I met them in the tunnels. Sorry for the horrible audio. The microphone ruined all my videos and the sweet sound of the V8's. I couldn't quite figure out how to mount the thing to avoid the audio problems.

OMG... You are sooooo f&^cked.... you left the shrine behind.. you FORGOT the shrine.... It felt your lack of respect and this is why your pully flew away and then you ruined the replacement.... You might as well get your wallet out and give it to the parts house. This is going to cost you BIGTIME.... Your driving a 928 this season is OVER.

Forgot the shrine.... Ill tell ya

What a waste of Mountain Dew, Tim Murphy.

Nice pic, Mark. Hope you had a nice ride south.

And your crank pulley failed? Is this coincidence?

Perhaps, the shrine is not to be moved? Did you learn nothing from Indiana Jones?

I think not?
