Question Vinyl Paint Adhesion?

Vinyl Paint Adhesion:

Anyone had good results with vinyl or leather paint? I painted vinyl on inflexible surfaces on my mustang convertible without problems. The other paint I put on 928 inflexible surfaces pealed a lot.

Question

Hi Sharks,

I just thought I would get this post back to the top. Maybe someone just gets involved on weekends. I got a response from another list:

I just sprayed my entire interior with paint. I sticks rather well. I had a paint shop mix it. It's special vinyl paint with a flex additive. Not cheap $55 pr quart. It was prepared and sprayed on by professional painters. I found that it really sticks to the vinyl but not as well to leather. But the stuff is pretty amazing. My whole interior looks brand new. The stuff is like water so it doesn't even look like it was sprayed with paint. I already had done this about 10 years ago and it held up quite well. I have higher hopes this time around because I'm using real good paint and the surface were scuffed and cleaned much better this time. I'm in N.H. if your close and want to check it out.

The paint was made by Dupont. To prep it it was cleaned with soap and water then it was lightly scuffed with fine sandpaper or scotch brite. The it was then wiped with a vinyl prep. The guys at the paint shop told me I got screwed by buying the Sem's stuff because it smells exactly like thier Naptha. The plastic pieces could use a flexible plastic primer but I didn't use it.

Anyone else have any experience with lasting results, or bad results?

Hi sharks, Take a look at this web page <a href="http://www.phat928.com" target="_blank">www.phat928.com</a> The company color-plus, which can be linked from the phat928 website has good info for leather and vinyl. JS WEST

Hi J S,

Good to hear from someone else in NC. Both of those sites have plenty of good info. I wonder if quick dry lacquer thinner is the same as regular lacquer thinner? Can I just go to home depot for that thinner?

Cheers,

Hi thomhross, Along with my aircraft mecanical work, I'm also our painter. I dont use lacquer paint on aircraft. But if i had to guess,I would say that fast dry lacquer has a faster evaporating quality(dry-time) than regular lacquer.
Good luck JS WEST <img src="graemlins/burnout.gif" border="0" alt="[burnout]" />
