In 1991, we carried our new Ninja-powered I/MS Spider to Bonneville for an attempt at some records. Got thru tech with no problems (the car exploited some interesting holes in the rule book), but discovered that our SCCA-approved driving suits weren't good enough for our speed class. A man whom I met in the tech line loaned me his $1000 FIA Formula 1 driving suit so we could set three new records, and left it with me when he blew up and left early.

Bob Akin had class.

He was killed testing a Nissan GTP ZX-Turbo at Road Atlanta.
