Lightbulb Warning light victory!

Have had a "tail lamp" warning light on Since ownership. I cleaned all electrical connections on every light, checked every connector I could find, Cleaned the fuse panel fuse by fuse.Changed every bulb to specification. Read every post, twice. Changed the headlight switch. I was about to disconnect the #%*@! light. Decided to take a chance on the Lamp control unit (bulb check) (light brain) on Ebay for $19.99 from an 80 MY. It came today and when installed, the light went out! The neighbors stared as I giggled and danced across the lawn. I had cleaned the connectors on the old unit previously. Now off, I took it apart. The bottom half of the circuit board was full of rust!!! Evidently, the heat exchanger(guessing) must have leaked water/coolant into the unit. This would explain the corrosion I found around the fuse panel area. I took the Shark for a victory lap around the pennisula I live on. Of course, the AC blower quit blowing midway through. You just gotta love these machines. Victory is sweet, albeit shortlived!

Tony,
You dirty bastage!
I've had the same problem - see the ton of post's - . While I firmly believe it is a faulty Bulb/light control unit I couldn't look at myself in the mirror again if I paid the asking price for a new one. Of course, the seat belt warn. is a little bit higher. In any case, most everyone parting out their cars sells the damn things faster than the console and mirror switches.
I must have missed the one you found on EBAY and I have auto notification for anything 928 related.
Snaked by a fellow Texan...oh, the humiliation!
On the up side: if you have gone thru your system like I have - 4 times - you can sleep easy KNOWING that corrosion, pitting, grounds are not an issue and that all of the bulbs and fuses are NEW and every connector is shiny and brightly polished.
BTW I now have a lifetime supply of fuses and bulbs.
Hey, forgot to ask...When you replaced the fuses everything was cool till you touched the brakes, right? Then when you hit the brakes, Poof, the caution lite said hello?
Enjoy the victory!

John,
Yes, I had all kinds of false Master Warning lights after cleaning the fuse panel and grounds found there. Started when I tapped the brakes to get the light to go out. Master warning came on several times that day, then quit coming on without reason. I think it was all the obscene names and gestures I conjured up! I have been following your posts (progress?) and I am rooting for ya! Just checked the blower motor, DRT (dead right there). Plenty of juice to the leads, hooked 12 volts to the motor, nothing but silence. Is it just me, or does everyone fix a problem the've been working on for months, only to have another one takes it's place? Oh well, that's why I bought that bottle of Crown Royal.
Maybe if I pray to the porcelain gods........

John & Anthony,

You ought to try my method. When I detect a problem, I order every part that could cause the symptoms. As soon as 928 Int ships them, the problem goes away. 8^)My collection sits in the garage waiting for either 928 to need them. Actually most of our electical problems boil down to those ceramic fuses. The contact patch is so small that any corrosion can/will cause chaos. I have found adapters that will allow you to install the blade type fuses, but the problem is finding the new fuses in 8 and 16 amp sizes.

thats right guys, if you have the spares on hand you will never use them, i sell enough parts on any given model car and tell myself, hey i need to stock that. its the last flippin time i need one. so now i let the parts house stock parts and buy as needed. found it to be a good business decision. by the way kevin, whats next on your list? heh heh. joel

Well, putting the interior back together after you had me tear it all out to retrofit the 134A would be a start.
