Interior Colours
#16
Porsche's colors are sometimes oddly named in my viewpoint. All very tastefull...but oddly named.
When I bought my '85 in 1999, the first thing I set out to do was rebuild the trashed interior. The seats had lambs-wool covers- perfect for an airplane, but definitely not cool for a 928. When I removed them, I discovered why there were there: vinyl front seat covers.
Vinyl doesn't breath at all, meaning your skin sweats like crazy when you sit on it, and that skin also gets left behind whenever you get out of the car. I had to do something. I looked at the color and the name that came to mind [my bad for not confirming the color name at the Porsche dealer... ] was "champagne". Wrong. It was "gray-beige".
Ok...I ordered black seat covers [the black hides dirt and wear far better] and a champagne carpet kit. And champagne showed up- a color much brighter than what existed on all my leather...
In the end, I decided I prefered the champagne, so I spent the extra coin and had the whole interior re-tanned to match the carpet kit. It came out fine in the end, though the champagne color easily shows dirt and needs to be cleaned ALL the time!
