Speedhut Gauge Bezels (not impressed)
OK,
I was one of those guys that thought these bezels could be a good deal and I am not completely decided - still have to put them on.
Here it is in a nutshell:
A piece of laser cut aluminum with a strip of two sided sticky tape!!!!
Come on?
<img border="0" alt="[ouch]" title="" src="graemlins/c.gif" />
I can see myself after what? 5-6 hours of work pulling the pod and getting this all back on and then watching the bezel (singular, its one piece) fall off after a week or so - then another few hours to go back in to try and fix it!!!! What a drag that would be......
The piece is also completely flat and I believe the faceplate of the gauges has bends on either side. Gotta figure that one out too?
My plan then, Speedhut are you listening?, is to get the proper bends using handy ole vice and then mounting the bezels using the smallest stainless steel sockethead cap screws I can find. This will require drilling into the gauge plate but should yield a pretty "racey" look.
I'll post the whole thing on DIY when I finish it.
Beware - if you are buying these as a simple look enhancement, I would suggest something else. Two sided sticky tape is definately NOT the way to upgrade your shark.......
IMHO Of Course

Bernie -
I bought them, and they look good. BUT = you are correct...they are flat and the gauges are angled...the tape does NOT do a good job of holding them. They WILL pop loose on either side of the speedo and tach, however, it is only about 1/16 of an inch that it pops loose. I had to pull my pod again recently (speedo gear and new PC Board) and used some better 2-sided tape.
Even when/if they pop loose:
1- Unless you are REALLY looking for it - it is NOT noticable.
2 - Because they are 'clamped' on the ends by the instr cluster 'trim' - it doesnot fall down or anything.
YMMV

We have a rule at jageng.com that if you can see, touch or use it from the driver's seat, it's got to be 100% best available materials & quality.
The gauges are right smack in front of you. NO high end automaker is using flat aluminum for bezels. If you machine from real high-quality aluminum alloy, hand polished, then you have a product that is up there with the Astons, Bentleys and Maybachs of the world. For a couple of tank fulls it's worth the difference.
There is nothing wrong with using a two sided acrylic adhesive tape for certain applications. The 3M product is very good, non-destructive, flexible, easy to use and holds extremely well throughout a wide temperature range.

P.S. If you have bought the Speedhuts and want to give the bezels from jageng.com a try, we'll discount your Speedhut purchase price from our web price.

No doubt about it, the jager parts are far superior , but so is the price!
Generous offer though..................
<img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" />
BTW - What IS your method of attaching the bezels to the faceplate?
I am hopeful that my plan to modify the mounting of the bezels will result in a unique look.

The jageng.com bezels have a machined step on them so they precision-fit into the gauge opening.
We supply a two part, clear epoxy glue to mount the rings to the housing.

I installed Speedhut's gauge rings. I'm not impressed [bear in mind that this is not a perfect picture, but you get the idea~].
I also did their Indiglo kit. I was impressed by the kit, but not the results. The red they show on their website is WAY different from what arrived in the mail, and the color of the gauges at night is COMPLETELY different from what they advertise!

Here's an admittedly horrid picture of the gauges in a Peugeot 406 Coupe...I'd pay GOOD $ for lighted gauge needles!

This is a mock up of what could be done with three high intensity BLUE LED's in place of the standard bulbs. While you are in there, clean the light conduits too.

We understand the glow gauges are a lot of work as well. The classic VDO displays, with proper bezels are very exquisite. The Blue LED's are about $8 each or so.
