Kuwasser Light is lit

I just replased my cooling expansion tank on my 80S euro because of a small leak on the seam. Engine temp gauge was running alittle warmer than usual for the last few days is why I was looking for a leak, instrument panel light never came on. Now, after replacing the tank and coolant level sensor the KUWASSER light stays on. Assuming the level sensor is new and not the cause I`m looking at the Temp Sensor, Temp switch or the Temp Switch for cold start all on the Thermostat housing. I plan on grounding out 1 at a time to see if the light goes out. Am I missing anything guys. Coolant level is just above the cold line on expansion tank when motor is cold. Toofer

what do you mean assuming the level sensor is new . ? is it ? or did it look good, the level sensor can fail internally this might be the problem or the harness to the level sensor might be corroded. Assuming that the mechanic that worked on the car only touched the resivour it would stand to reason that this would be the most likley place to start looking

My later car (1989) has a coolant pressure sensor also. Did that get disconnected in the tank-swapping session? It's in the small line forward of the tank, hangs under the fender lip to the rear of the top of the shock tower.

toofer, that is a real poor way to start out on a board...Especially one as helpful and full of good people as this one. Mrmerlin is well respected here and is good people. I thought the same as he did when I read your post, how can you assume the sensor is new, either it is new or it is not.

Toofer-
Mrmerlin is a fairly able 928 wrench, trying to help with your problem. He works on the cars all the time, and offers some good suggestions about possible problems. He's trying to help YOU with a problem that YOU most likely caused, so insulting him (and the rest of the group) just seems ever-so-slightly inappropriate. Just my own opinion, of course.

Most diagnoses of problems like this (it worked fine until I fixed it...) deserve a second look at the part that was 'fixed', and that's what he suggests. Is the level switch used? Lots of folks manage to buy used parts to replace failed originals, and his question is quite valid, since you didn't specify that the switch or the tank are new. Even if it is NOS new or at least looks new, a problem in that area as you describe it certaily deserves another look, maybe this time with an ohmmeter on the switch. I think between us we described two possible things that would cause the warning message, with others on the list including wires not connected or maybe broken when you did the work. Everything was fine until you fixed it, right?
Be sure to let us know what you find so others searching later will know what to look for.

When I replace electronic sensors, especially when they are as hard to get at as the level sensor I put in new parts, I purchase them advertised as new. However, not all part dealers are as honest as they should be, thus, I assume the part I bought was new, I don`t know one way or the other, neither do any of you. I saw MRMerlin had been a member of Rennlist for many years, I`m sure he knows what he is talking about when it comes to this forum, however, the way he replied to my thread was very brash and I`m not used to letting anyone bite at me in that manner. However, if all who read the thread would have replied in kind I offer an apology to MrMerlin and will work on my anger control and my verbal skills or lack of both. Toofer

toofer, why didn't you just say you replaced the level sensor in the first place? I'm a bit literal myself, and your wording confused me too. We don't assume much around here. You know what they say about assume. Stan's coments after trying to determine whether you really replaced the sensor are still quite valid, as they always are. BTW, the level sensor still could be the problem.

Bill, I appreciate your help as I do all of the comments on this forum, however, maybe you should read the first thread again, when I mentioned I replaced the level sensor. (I try to think but nothing happens)
