Default Sharktoberfest - how far are you driving to get there? Too early to start a caravan?

Here is the route I'm looking at:

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=e...=UTF8&z=5&om=1

I haven't even made it to SIH and I'm looking at October
Two week road trip takes a bit more planning!

Wednesday - Green Bay to Wichita
Thursday - Wichita to Albuquerque
Friday - Albuquerque to Anaheim

Maybe driver further each day if we are feeling up to it. It would be nice to go straight to Albuquerque.

Route B:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=e...=UTF8&z=5&om=1

If it's true you can really haul *** between Oklahoma and California, the second leg might not take very long

That's an idea, would be fun to pick up a nice group.
I've never planned or even participated on a road trip much longer than 10 hours. It's faster (shorter) to go through Denver. I'm worried about snow going over the Rockies.

Or better yet, do you need a passenger to share the $4/gallon gas load? figure ~5000 miles, 20 MPG= $1k. = WOW

The wife is coming along. This will be our two year wedding anniversary vacation.

Might be the last

She can ride with you after Springfield

Eric-

The drive through the Rockies in October is spectacular. Snow may be an issue, but you can watch the trends to see. Denver is a --really-- long day from the L.A. basin but it has been done. With your co-driver it will be easier. So long as she doesn't leave you at a mini-mart in west nowhere.

Thought--

Rather than killing yourselves trying to race to Cali, consider making the journey part of the vacation. Add a day (or two) to each side of the trip, take your time, see the sights and enjoy the ride. Show up relaxed and refreshed, alive and still on speaking terms. Last time I looked, there were over 11 fun touristy-type things to do here as well as on the way.

The original idea was to spend a day in Lawrence, Kansas (my home town) see some sights in the old west, stop in Vegas for a day or two etc... I'm still tossing that idea around. We were thinking about going straight to SoCal then spending some extra time there (Disney, drive the mountains etc...) Not 100% sure yet. It would be fun to do a 4 day cross country road trip with a group of 928's.

I'll second that, and recommend the route I took bringing the growler home in August. Denver/Moab/June Lake (Ca)/Yosemite/Santa Barbara. You could potentially have snow issues over Tioga pass but you'll know way in advance and you can divert through Las Vegas. There's a wide open stretch of road - 120 miles or so - where there is nothing, not even a gas station. The first time I took it up to 110.

Tentative plan -- hit the road Thurs. nite or Fri. am. -- it's only a ~375 mile trip for me.

Hey Erik... we're about 75 miles from Mecca down here in the San Diego region. Stop by for a little debauchery in TJ, a drink or two at Dick's Last Resort and we'll get a caravan of garage queens (poke-poke )heading up that way in honor of your anniversary.

All I know for sure is that I'm not following Tom M into LA on I-5 during the lunch hour rush again.
