Hilarious. Had the V1 come on top it ya'll V1 folks would have been all over it. The words \consistently over-rated comes to mind.

Best speeding ticket avoidance device is:

The thing rattling around in yer noggin.

Really love the engine braking torque of the V8 lump. Drop a gear or two and not brake lights. I'm back in the safe zone. Just got to make sure no one is following me too closely as I stealthily shed speed.

Ok so I'll chime in - I like them both and have them both:

I have a Passport 8500 x50 with remote mute and a V1 with remote audio & display. They are both excellent detectors, either one can help save you - but you still have to hit the brakes and fade into traffic - a warning alone is not enough.

The Passport is good at not falsing much but I find the info display not very intuitive or useful beyond band - but having fewer falses is a great boon - just about all alerts are real. The downside here is once you have an alert or particularly multiple alerts it doesn't tell you much more.

The Valentine falses a lot more if X is on and still more than the Passport even with X-off. This can lead to ignoring alerts which is dangerous...(I try to avoid this). However the V1 gives you a lot more easily digestible info and this is a major advantage during an extended encounter (say a multi car/bike coordinated trap).

They boh work well and though there may be minor differences in range - either one is good enogh at detecting all bands. It comes down to preferences on info presented & tolerance of overzealous alerting... I wish the V1 alerts were as accurate as the Passport and I wish the Passport had better info displys. Both have remotes units (controls/displays not sensors) but the V1 versions are far more capable allowing for more installation options.

You really won't go wrong with either one (or their equivalents). I have the V1 in my GTS and the Pasport in the truck my wife drives. This works well - she likes the simpler alert optons - the V1 falses drive her nuts, I prefer more info and have to filter some of it myself... When I'm driving the truck (often) I think the Passport works just fine too.

We did have a side by side test a while back ..caravan of 928's.......one with V1..one with the passport(whatever number it is)...and one costco bell special.....the lead car with V1..radios back to us....warning..picking up something...no one else responds that they have a hit.....we begin to think think it was a false ...but then all of a sudden...everyone pipes up..getting something now..(like a mile later)...sure enough....cop in median....I've even seen the V1 give 2 miles plus warning...which is kind of dangerous....you tend to think it was a false..and get back on it...only to come up on the cop miles down the road... ...
I keep saying this...but one of these days I am really going to have to do it...and just buy the V1...it's performance is unmatched by any thing I've seen to date.....

Tom:
Oversensitive circuitry that warns you of EVERY signal will OF COURSE seem superior -- till you have to live with it every mile of every drive. Even the cheapest POS I have will alert me of every signal, they have horrible exclusion circuitry. The secret is in the logic to give you the REAL alerts and NOT the falses.

I've been saying this for 7 years.

Agreed ... "Everybody knows it's the best, don't be ridiculous. Trust me, just get one it's the best. You can't go wrong with the V1. There's nothing like it. All the others are amateurs. If you're serious about detection, there's only one"

Abby I know people seem to love the arrows. However on drives I've been with a V1, the arrows CONSISTENTLY showed signals 180 degrees off. In other words you're hit from behind, but the V1 shows it from the front because the signals are reflected off a vehicle or object ahead.

The one aspect I keep mentioning, and I keep seeing V1 fans ignore, is that any detector, no matter how good/bad, that is mounted to the front and rear tips of a vehicle, will outperform any detector that is mounted in one spot on the windshield, because that spot simply is not visible from all angles of attack. The Passport SR1 I have (two of them) and the ZR3, have their receivers mounted at the licence plates.

I had a V1 for a month and went back to a Beltronics. I was not impressed one bit with it.

Arrows are accurate on my V1, the only gripe I have is Infiniti vehicles, especially the FX35/45 set off the laser warning. Other than that I have no complaints.
