XKR vs S4

XKR vs S4
Well,
While returning from a vacation from Central Coast (w/ the wife and luggage and a couple cases of vino)at about 75 MPH when an XKR I had passed a few moments ago decided to speed up to me. For a few moments I was minded my own business but apparently the young go getter wanted a piece of the old S-4. I could tell by his smug half cocked head leaning over looking directly at me.
OK, I dropped it to third a waved <img border="0" alt="[bigbye]" title="" src="graemlins/xyxwave.gif" /> , I sped away about 3 car lengths passed into his lane. By the time I maxed out 3rd, (I forgot to shift) and about 7 car lengths ahead was about the time he gave up the chase.
I slowed down to about 75 for a rematch but he wanted no more, this guy slowed way down and proceeded at a leisurely pace.
So I lean over to the wife and say that would have ended even quicker with a supercharger on board.

The S4's for that year are all autos, right? That's an interesting comparison, as I know all the XKR's are too, though with more like 400hp. Just shows the numbers don't tell the whole story.

Well,
The 928 is geared for top end work. That Jag is much faster from the line, but as I suspected at speed my car would have an edge. I was truly surprised that I kept and improved my lead from the get go.

I thought that the XKR would be faster since it has got more power and a five-speed gearbox..
Maybe it was an XK, almost the same but without the supercharger?
The jag's gearbox is also from MB btw..

Flint - 89 was the last year of the 5 spd. "S4" models. 90 and 91 S4s had to be auto, and if you wanted a five speed, it was a GT. Obvuously, GTSs in 93-95 were both auto and manual.

anders,
Interesting about the MB tranny
It could have been an XK but not likely.
Besides more ponies the XKR also has about 600 more lbs of girth.
After some research, down low the the XKR does sixty in about 5.5 the 1/4 in about 14.
My times are about 5.8 and 14.
Don't get me wrong I wasn't galloping off into the sunset against this guy but if it was an XK I think it would have been much worse.
Since I don't go looking for the race it may be awhile before I get the opportunity again.

Our cars lack low-end grunt for stoplight races, but if you hit the kick-down at the proper speed, and it hits the peak of the powerband, our cars can really jump ahead on the freeway.
