Post Kick Down Switch for Auto Trans

In General - No Year/Model 928 specified.

What are the negative aspects of having the kick down switched bypassed to the on position (constantly).

Will it burn the transmission?
Will it fry the ECU?.

I'm curious (as well as a few others) because I recently found out that my KD switch has been bypassed since I've owned my shark (about a year now).

Hey Drewster,

I can't say exactly. I know there was something negative but I don't remember exactly what was posted. Do a search on Kickdown and maybe you can find the thread.

Sorry, I couldn't be more help.
If I can find the thread, I will post the link.

Have you hooked your kickdown switch back up?

Bernie -

I haven't hooked the switch back up but I know it has been bypassed to the on position. My shark originally had a five speed (which I forgot to mention earlier). I am in the process of gaining more information regarding the KD switch, from the previous owner, and how he has it was bypassed.

I'll post the feedback upon reception.

Thanks for the reply!

I have been running a kick down swith on my car for almost a year and my last 928 also for about two years , and it was one of the greatest performance mods I could have done, when the car downshifts to take a turn it hits first instead of second and man, it halls A@#! I don't think that there are anythings wrong with doing that but i could be wrong in my experience I havn't had any problems, good luck

Drewster67:
I've heard of folks converting their 928 AT to manual, but yours is the first 928 I've read about that was converted from a manual to an AT.

I installed a PKS on my 86.5 AT, and it was very responsive when engaged. I only used it during autocross and occasional DE events. On the street, it was a bit much, particularly if the road was a bit moist. Also, like most performance enhancing devices or modifications, gas mileage usually suffers. YMMV.

I know converting a manual to automatic makes you think, what's wrong with this picture but ...it was converted prior to my purchase.

Since Iv owned the car, I love the fact the kd switch has been bypassed. From a launch she'll slide in second and on occasion, she'll slide from 3rd to fourth. Yeah Baby!.

At my rate of travel, I'll need a new set of hoosiers soon!.
