I'm doing, well actually vilhuer is doing my S4 5speed TT bearings replacement and a dilemma came up.
The vibration dampener rubbers are quite worn and there's a concern that the dampener might move because of that.
Easy solution: leave the damn thing out! Anyone done this? Any problems encountered?

put it in TT , drill a few holes and add a few screws to hold it in place, it will remove unwanted vibes from the driveline, or add a few wraps of vulcanising tape to rubber ends to make it harder to fit

To make decision little easier just counted if there is space for damper to fall to bottom of outer tube. It seems there is, barely. On 28mm late style automatic tube center shaft and damper will practically touch each but damper will not be held up on center shaft. With 25mm center shaft version there is 1.5mm space between them.
