Yes. Brushed aluminium would be awesome. But I love the black strip on black lights.

That exhaust tips by the plate look great, but it would be a challenge getting the tailpipes across there where the gas tank is now. Maybe with the right heat shielding around that section of the pipes?

I'm still not sure that adding a bunch of black to that big wide white butt would be an improvement over the red. I agree that it's totally right for a black or other dark-colored car, but too much contrast on white IMO. Can you change your phoshop image to70% white mask over the red tail lites?

Thanks again for all of the comments folks, I really do appreciate everything that is said.

Andrew, the screening is for keeping leaves out of gutters I just cut and fit using duct tape...and its still on there incredibly enough. It was a quick thing until I figured out what I would do differently.
I should probably go get some thin aluminum and bend it to fit around the strip (profile would look like this [ ) Very easy to do.
The back of my car gets full of black anyway from the exhaust, so what does it matter where it happens

H, I like the all black too, but when you look at it for real, it is still 3 pieces and just doesn't look right to me. I also did think about a black rubber, plastic or ABS piece instead of the aluminum strip. ....probably ABS would look best.

Bob, all that has to be done to the exahaust is just disconnect the RMB and make new pipes to follow around and up behind the bumper cover since the dual exahaust is already routed to the driver side.. The passenger side pipe wouldn't come near the gas tank, BUT, I would certainly put a heat shield in there anyway.
I just got lucky with the black tail lens as I cut them from a pic of the car in the shade....just a cut and paste Because of the angle and reflectiveness, I wouldn't expect the blacked out lenses to appear so black, probably more reflective than anything. I would only give them enough coats to lose the red color. As I had stated before, if someone made gray and clear lenses like the 997's, game over.

I do dig the exhaust flanking the license plate. I would have to cut some eurothayne from an old bumper and epoxy it in, to cover the old tail pipe cut out. Hopefully I would be able to get the color matched well enough just to have to paint to the bumper cover creases so it all look uniform.

Of course I have a SH*T load of other things to finish on this car first.

I assume that painting the center section white is not an option...or better yet, purchase or make a center filler piece and paint it white. This way, you can always switch back to the original.

Yea, painting a filler piece white defeats the whole purpose of anything at all.

A - not sure about "brushed" aluminum...this isn't a kitchen appliance

I had a thought last night, but I would have to take a bit to draw it up...will post later....

I lost the picture from the rear, but here was somebody's underside routing. It looked really sharp.

Nice Chris...thanks for the pic! This shows plain as day that the rear bumperettes were removed and you can see daylight where the cut outs are. This pic shows a modified exhaust, but the factory dual exhaust pipes end up pretty much where they are in the pic. Just take it straight out past the battery box and it's in it's stock location. This pic is missing the heat shield to the battery box though.

SO.....the point is, you can see how eeeeeeeasy it is to route the tail pipe up to my proposed location. You can attach hangers to the aluminum "I" beam infra-bumper.

BTW, my idea keeps the pipes further away from the gas tank than this mod does.

Keith, you have a beautiful car and I'm confident you'll end up doing something tasteful that I will envy. But, I can't help thinking you're just messin' with perfection.

CB, you know as well as the next guy, it's a sickness. The only difference between any of us, is which part of our being, is infected. I happen to be terminal, so I'm told.

What ever the case may be, all this crazy crap I do, aside from being an attention ***** and striving to be different, is all reversible...as far as the car is concerened.
My car can be put back to stock with relative ease as I have all of the original parts. It' s the little things that I do that give a big appeal when you think about it..

The last thing I want to do is something that just looks wrong. I think of it as therapy, throwing ideas out there. It helps me stay in check and breeds more ideas.

It is a sickness. The car is the cure... thankfully.

Keith,
Finally got to mock-up a reflector. Put 20mil clear lens protection film over the messed up spare reflector (surface cracks), and then put some color on the clear film.
Had it in silver at first. Running out of time for SITM so I put color on top of the silver.
Silver might work since the back-up lights are silverish.

Does this mean you wouldn't be interested in selling me your CR-1 radio?

I'm thinking that I like the original idea of shading the middle red strip to dark. However, I wonder what it would look like if you continued the tint across the taillights in the same thickness as the center panel; retaining the upper portion of the lights original. Then lower the GTS insignia onto that center strip for contrast. Indeed, the exhaust thing looks cool through the removed bumperett location, but in my opinion it says "I'm a 928 trying to be like something else" too much. I appreciate the 928 in its subtly attractive shape. You have a beautiful car already.

Best wishes on your project.
