The bumperettes line up perfectly when your car is butt-high, hard on the brakes, while the perp's car is nose-down hard on the brakes. They don't don't do much for sonic-method parkers though.

Here is the bumperette version color keyed. (I eventually got tired of them too so I yanked 'em off) The early bumperette's matched the cars as they were smooth with no ridges and a bit larger, the GTS's DON'T!




BTW, I woke up this morning thinking of two other alternatives. 1st being the use of some kind of paint to overspray the black with, to give it a "silver" kind of mist. Similiar to the old window tint that was a dark mirrored look, buit no that intense of course.
The 2nd being removing the "bow" strip all together and have an aluminum or chrome strip in it's place...maybe with "GTS" etched in it. THAT would be different huh?!?!

I would buy an S4 cover, paint it to match, grab some used tail light assemblies, smoke 'em or black them out as required, add 928GTS and your done. Plus you still have all the original pieces if you decide to sell or just revert back to stock.

That's not a bad idea, as long as you can match the material to something you already have on the car - like your rims. The good thing: If you don't like it, you can always go back to a blackened out reflective strip.

Shane's suggestion is another alternative. But I hear replacing the rear bumper cover is a real pain to do.

Now you have many choices, and need to decide which one you like best. It's your car, and most of us don't see it very often...

My 2 cents--

The most impressive thing about the rear view of your car is all that wide white 928 butt hunkered down on the road. I have a few hours of experince with that on the caravans, etc. In my opinion, adding black accents and lamps would be a step in the wrong direction. I agree with Ron about putting solid panels in where the bumperettes used to be, but matching white would be my choice. And as much as I like the blacked-out lenses on many cars, I'd be figuring out how to make them white-out instead so the disappear against the white bumper shell. The shape of the lenses integrates so well with the shell that at least a partial white-out would help a lot. Face it, every little import with loud screachy exhaust seems to have blacked-out lenses. Your white-on-white car doesn't deserve that treatment.

Go for the black taillights, they look really cool on the white car. However, when you get those done get the windows all tinted too and it will give it almost the "stealth" look.

I saw a black C5 Vette once that had smoked taillights and super tint and had a licenseplate that read "BAT OUTA". LOL.

Hey Keith,

Just saw your post here. I did this to the Koenig tail lights right before Sharktoberfest last year. I can give you some good pointers if you decide to go this route.

Basically, I used clear PPG urethane and darkened it with black tint. Layered it until I got the desired shade (about 5 coats). Then colorsanded (1000 grit) and buffed to get it perfectly glossy.

I think your car will look good with it. I had an old white Z-car I did the same thing to years ago. Just my .02 worth.

A euro S4 rear bumper cover would be very cool...even a Euro GTS bumper cover. I am just not crazy about the PORSCHE stamped into the S4 cover. I would much rather prefer the license plate area solid, but I haven't been able to come up with anything that looks like it isn't "covering up holes".

If some one made grey and clear lenses like the 997's, I would be real happy. I have been thinking more about the strip though. I think I(or someone) can make a cover to attach with double stick tape. They would match my wheels real nicely. I would just have to think of a neat "style" to give it. This would actually match the car well. I was studying it today at an angle and I know something can be done to change it and make it look like it's supposed to be there.

There are still several options to go with around the license plate. I just have to come up with some thing. One thought was to find the same screening they use for the Carrera GT and cover that entire area either behind the plate or bring it out flush with the rest of the bumper.

THIS idea is really what I would want to do most, but haven't mentally commited to it yet. It CAN be done!

I'm diggin' that exhaust look. That would look amazing, but your license plate would probably turn black!

As for the strip... I think some brushed aluminum/Stainless with Nicole's raised letters would look fantastic. Chrome would look out of place IMHO. As a test you could pick up some thin aluminum stock, shape it, and apply it over the reflector with double sided tape for a few days to see if you like it or not.

BTW, where'd you pick up the plastic grate material to fill in the bumperettes?
