Need Interpretation (dash "I" warning light flashes - RV)

on my 86.5 auto - every now and again (no clear pattern) the "I" light in my instrument cluster flashes 3 times in rapid succession, then stops flashing for awhile. Doesn't happen all the time, and usually only after the car is well warmed up. No other messages pop up in the cluster face, altho that could just mean the message is not functioning properly (altho all of the messages lite up at start, as they should). Lastly, the "I" light on the consol (which is a button that can be pushed to reset it) does not light when the cluster light does. Any clues?

no; can't trace it to that. Usually steady hiway driving. First noticed it on Hershey trip on PA turnpike - flat, smooth and cruising at speed. I should note that I have a known vacum hose disconnected from under the plenum, and haven't put that back on yet -could be car is just telling me to get that checked?

Anyone else with a thought on the "I" light warning? (tried to edit title, and for some reason I am not allowed?)

If it comes on intermittently, my first guess would be a fluid level that internittently goes below the minimum. Then a bad wire for a brake pad, light, etc.
No other lights come on in the dash along with it? Or maybe another light bulb is burnt out?

[QUOTE=leperboy]If you can reset it, it's what the owner's manual calls a "Group B" warning and should come on along with another warning light..."
I'm not able to reset it...The reset button in the consol does not light up, so there is no ability to reset it.

I will check this theory.
"No other lights come on in the dash along with it? Or maybe another light bulb is burnt out?"
Correct. I'm not sure if there is something else burned out or what. All of the warning lights do come on in the cluster when I first fire the car up, however. I do not believe it's a Group A warning, so that is good, but the 3 rapid blinks seems like a problem code of some sort....

Sorry, I misread. I thought it was the console light. I don't know what indicator looks like an I and con't find anything that looks like an I in the owner's manual.
Does this light light up when you turn the ignition, during the bulb check?

no problem Matt; the "I" in the cluster in the pod is in the top center, and I believe it is supposed to work in concert with the "I" warning light in the consol. I don't recall if it lits when car started during bulb check...

Pull a tail bulb and turn on the parking lights to see if the magic 'I' light is working right. Both the top center pod light and the center console should light together.
Is the back hatch latch repaired yet?
I don't know if the car alarm triggers the 'I' pod light?
If the hatch is bouncing a bit then it'll drive the alarm batty everytime you hit a bump.
Any experts on the Porsche factory alarm here?

Hi Ernest - I did get a new rear latch (compliments of Jim Bailey and company!) and installed it, and that problem is gone. I do have a turn signal bulb out in the front passenger side, could this be the problem?

Ed,
If the bulb is only mostly dead, then the 2 flopping filament bits may be brushing against each other and completing the circuit to signal no problem. Then any vibration could cause the filament to flop again and break contact so the system is reporting a bulb out.
Get a pair of bulbs (to balance the left right current load) and swap out the offending bulbs. It only all fixes can be that easy.
