I have an 84 928S that I need to sell...where would be the best place to do that? I tired Autotrader but was sent to a collector car site due to the age. Any suggestions would be appreciated.....Kip

If you are serious about selling the best place is eBay. For $45 you get good exposure and after filtering out the flakes will get the best price the quickest.
There are a couple of issues in selling the car. if it is an 84 Auto US model in avearge condition then do not expect to get much for the car. If it is a Euro model with a five speed in excellent condition then hold out, take some time marketing and get a good price. In that case hit the market with multiple attacks with Craig's List, eBay and even local advertizing. Many papers are now offering composite on line listings as a supplement to a Sunday ad. A sign on the car helps too.
An 84 US Auto with 100+K miles in average run down condition is only worth a couple of thousand - at best Attempts to get a premium price for a commodity item will only end up costing more in ad costs than the car is worth. If this is the case take lots of pictures, write an honest description and put it on eBay with no reserve and a starting price of $500. This will get some attention. One thing that happens on eBay is while it national advertizing, local people seeing the location will come out and look at the car. I have sold a couple of cars locally from eBay ads after the end of the auction.
A couple of tips on eBay. They charge you for every picture. But they do not charge you for a link. You can take tons of pictures and put them on another web site and provide a link in your ad. I find the more pictures and the better the description (without a lot of slaes hype) the more likely the car will sell. You do not need to educate the buyer about how great a car the 928 is. Anyone looking to buy one probably already has that information. Just be honest and list the good with the bad.
The second thing on eBay is to have a positive rating - at least 10 or more as a seller. New sellers get hit because there is no trust or posted feed back. If you are new to eBay, either buy some small items you want to get good feedback or use a friend's site who has good feedback. I have gotten more than one good deal from a new seller simply because most people are not willing to take a risk.
As a courtesy to buyers reject and filter out bids from those with negative or zero feedback. No real person wants to bid against a shill. Although while against eBay rules there is nothing wrong with having a friend put in a bid or two if you think the bidder has higher undisclosed bid. I know such practice is wrong and bad, but done discretely can help you get your price and will work as a hidden reserve.
Hope this helps

What is your eBay ID...
Not going to report you. I just never want to be involved in an auction of yours.
