Default Boohoohoo...I'm lonely (Title changed to: Please Wish Louie Well)

I went to the Oregon PCA Portland Arrive-And-Drive Monthly event. It was a great 150-mile morning jaunt through the hill area outside of SE Portland with about 30 to 40 cars. The only problem was that I was the only front-engine car

P/S.
Please don't get me wrong....the 911'ers were great and friendly. In fact, some expressed that they have always liked the 928 design. It would have been nice to see another 928 or 944 brethen. I will have to live with the fact that there are not too many 928s around compared to 911s. I guess that I will have to get used to the "loner" label being a recent owner of a 928.

Portland huh?? Where was Keith? The guy that complains about no one showing up at the events, Huh, Huh??? :-)

Most of the rear engine guys have come to appreciate the 928 or they now feel its okay to disclose those feelings now. Looks like a good time.

I have not met Keith. But I hear that his dash parts are spread out all over the state!

Look at it this way, you were the Swan in with all the ugly ducks. You have something nobody else has a V 8.

I had the same experience at a Santa Barbara run last fall
http://pcasb.org/index.php?id=10
The only other front engine there that I can recall was a 968, which was the first time I'd seen one. They were a decent bunch of people but this "waterboy" felt like an outsider. I'm doing the Rally their having here next weekend, we'll see if it's any different.

LOL..First I've heard of this. Aside from my car being in pieces, I am not a fan of the PCA, so don't even get me started on them (PCA= Prejudice Car A**holes) Obviously, the rest of the 928'ers up here must feel the same way I do.

If it was a 928 event, I would have carted my car over on a trailer!

This is not the first Arrive and Drive event that I attended. I am in my 40s. There were a few younger ones, but most are in their 50s and 60s. They were very friendly. Yes, there will be a very small minority with huge egos. The high octane juice went to their head instead of their cars. But you generally get this in any car club event or life in general. I simply learm to avoid them. All in all, today's event was still a great experience for me. Lots of driving around curves coupled with some enjoyable bursts of speed.

Here are some pics of a couple of younger guys checking out the 928. A little bit of education to help them to learn a little more about front-engine wasserpumpers can sure help alleviate the igorance about our beauties.

You need to pop the hood when you park. Most of them have never seen an engine!

Hi Andrew,
Welcome to the area. I heard from Steve Demosthenes in Mosier that you were out our way a short while ago too. Next time you are driving East from Portland, stop on by. Guaranteed you won't feel lonely here. Three 928s in my shop and two more in an adjacent shed and two more at my neighbor's place. Two bent donors parked in the woods out back. Great roads in the area too except you'll have to dodge bicyclists on the weekend. They own the road y'know. Are you going on the Heckowee tour next Saturday? I'm hoping they'll stop by too. I got whacked by a heart attack last Monday and right now I'm about as useful as a stripped timing belt. Expecting to be better in a few days.

Wow.. must be a sucky region. I'm glad ours split out of PNW and is pretty local (OPR). A very friendly and welcoming bunch. Again, a couple of egos but.. a fun group. Mostly order (but being in my 40's myself.. that's just fine... ) some younger.

We've had a club event every weekend for the last 4. In fact we have another one today.

Pictures from the last two:

Visit to North American Eagle hanger (actually the Corvette club invited us along):

We have a few water-pumpers in our group too, at least I see then when I look at the photos. It's amazing, when people are out of the cars you can't tell the air-heads from the water-pumpers.

Jeez, Louie, I hope you are feeling better! Can you get a pacemaker with a tuner computer?

Andrew - I'm planning on going to meet up with the Hecko lads at Louie's next Sat, if you want to caravan.

I think anyone would have a heart attack driving your car Louie, good luck with recovery.
