Brian,
Checkout a/d/s/ powerplates - most support a remote analog subwoofer level control you can mount on the dash - here are 2,4,6, and more channel versions. the 6 channel and up are big... I have 2x a/d/s/ amps installed both can support the remove sub control - they also have pre-set level controls on the amps per channel pairs.
Not in the McIntosh league maybe but very good amps (and speakers esp. the old ones befoe they were acquired).
Brian
Be careful....audio upgrades start off small and grow into monsters.....next thing you know you'll have a full custom 6.1 dolby surround sound with 500+ watts, a custom subwoofer-amp rack, DVD player + navigation & you be $$$$$$ into it.......I've been there done that with my old car......$7K full competion stereo in a car I sold (with the stereo in it) for $5K.....I know I'm a rocket scientist
However my $300 installed Sony head unit sounds great even with my stock speakers...just removed the old amp & power everything from the head unit....its rated at 50+ watts per channel...but in reality is about 15 watts.....sounds pretty good....sure I would like some more bass & surround sound (like my old car).....but I don't want to add a bunch of sound deadening to the 928 either
I agree with Alan. I have an a/d/s 640 powerplate w/sub controller in a Mercedes coupe. It is close to 9 years old and has not given me one bit of trouble. Mine is delivering 40 watts to each corner of the car powering Cerwin-Vega 2-ways and has 2 channels bridged to deliver 80 watts to my 10" Cerwin-Vega sub. Head unit is a German,(not Taiwan) Blaupunkt. After 9 years it still sounds great!!
I see that amp has a wired remote option for the bass--do you happen to know if the m/f connectors are phone (like telephone) jacks?
Not sure. I don't recall seeing that kind of connection on the amps I have, but maybe the 6 channel has special connections mine (4ch & 2ch) don't. I'll take a look tonight.
I control the sub from my Alpine headunit. The sub control is the first one that pops up when you push in the volume control ****. There's also a variable crossover built into the Alpine head, which is also the first one to pop up when I push another button.
If you want more power, and are considering buying a seperate sub amp, or self powered sub, go with this beast. There aren't many amps out there bigger than this, and at a great price. I am tempted myself.
There has never been an amp, more beautiful than the Audison HR100 and Thesis line.... of course list price on the HR100 was $10,000 and still sells today for over $3000 used. Similarly, the Sedici still sells for well over $1000 used here in the US market (less in europe, around $600).
I have an MTX 10" Sledgehammer Sub box being run by a 1000w mono bridged Crunch Amp for $69 from Fry's, Stock Speakers and an Alpine $140 head unit with a direct connected Ipod 80gb video. I am very pleased with the sound. It has a quick impact to the sound to it that i love and more than enough volume to still be clean with the windows down. People do not believe me when I tell them it is a $350 system.
