Default 86 INTAKE TORQUE 15 NM SEEMS LOOSE

The intake pipes call for 15 NM torque this seems pretty loose compared with how hard it came off. Is this correct or is the manual wrong??

Do you mean the hose claps? I just tighten them until they are.....well, tight.

No the intake organ pipes to the heads just went through a leaking intake gasket issue and replacing them now!

Ahhh ok. I just removed mine last week for the second time since I had the car. I only use a torque wrench to tighten head bolts, everything else is by feel. What type of gasket are you using, rubber or paper? Mine is paper and can be tightened down quiet trong. I beleive the rubber type has a set limit.

It does seem kinda low, but the setup is not designed to rely on squishing the gasket flat. The spacers placed over the studs sit on the top of the head, and the nut will only go down as far as the spacer allows - which provides the right dimension/pressure on the intake gasket. The low torque is really to keep from overtightening the nut against the spacer......assuming an '85 with the single rubber seal per side.

As far as I know, '85s had paper gaskets and so did some of the '86s.

Ya that...... If you are worried use some blue LokTite.

You'd sure be pissed to pull threads out of an aluminum head!

I can't find a specific torque specified for these bolts but the generic listing given on page 10-09 of the WSM says 20+2 NM (15+1 ftlb) for a M8 bolt.
