Default I couldn't pass it up....

Good think I have an understanding wife. My 928 race car is in indefinite project state, as it seems my 89 S4 is. To make matters worse I started refreshing my M3. So far I have been able to just drive my 87 S4 even though it needs timing belt maintenance.

The I got a call about an 84 with auto that apparently had a water pump failure leading to a timing belt failure. Knowing this should be a non-interference motor, I knew it could be an easy fix. I went to pick it up yesterday and found quite a nice looking 928. Other than the lifting around the defroster ducts in the dash, the interior is very clean. The exterior looks excellent.

Now I just have to find time to review it's issues and repair it, so it can go to a good home

My "understanding" wife has indicated an interest...

ROW fenders and a US speedo could mean a gray market car converted. Pray to God it's not a Euro. Did you see 2 distributor caps when you popped the hood? If so, the car DEFINITELY has an interference engine.

ZZZ VIN?

It's pretty possible that some long-lost Euro had it's fenders parted out to fix this car.

Yes, I noticed the ROW fenders right away and got hopeful. But no ROW rear bumper cover, nor ROW VIN. The motor looks like a US to me, skinny spider.

I would happily trade the problems of a Euro S to having the US motor though.

P.S. the wife is definitely a keeper, our 29th anniversary is this year.

Even with the Non-LH motor, the license plate still is appropriate.

Nice!

If you don't mind me asking, what did you spend for it?

Thanks, Woody

Umm, since I am likely to resell, I would rather not mention the price. I would happily sell it for $4k today though

Just wondering. I looked at an 83 that has been parked for 7 years in a field. I told the guy I would be hard pressed to give him $1000 for it because it would take 3K to get it running. He had originally paid 10K for it and didn't want to take such a beating. I think he will be lucky to get it dragged off for free.
Thanks, Woody

The value of a non-running 928 is quite subjective of course. The first consideration (to me) is what would the car be worth in good running condition. Factors to be considered include the condition of the interior and exterior, since restoring a 928 can quickly exceed the value of the car.

It is not uncommon at all for the owner of a non-running 928 to think it should be worth 80% of a running 928 of similar condition. I offer them a reality check and then wait for it to sink in
