Took my 928 to the Porsche dealer to get the AC evacuated and re-charged. There was a 911 customer who was awestruck when he saw me pull up in my 928. He kept telling the service manager how great it looked and hasnt it been 10 years since they made one.
Then I told him mine was 20 years old. On his way out he had to make a special lap around my 928 one more time
.
Then I got in a Boxster S; they get smaller every time I get in one. Now the Caymen S seemed much better with the room in the back above the engine. The 18 inch Caymen wheels would really look great on a 928!

Yes, whenever I drive up at the Porsche dealer, my car gets a lot of attention. It seems there are few nice 928s that make it to the dealers these days - if any. So it's kind of a flashback for people there. Some, of course, have stories to tell about negative experiences, or how they hated working on these cars.

Yup. I went by the body shop that buffed up my new purchase TWO years ago and the owner remember my 928 from then. Surprised me because they must have worked on hundreds of cars since 2005.

Whew, I'm afraid to drive our OB anywhere near our closest Porsche dealer. The want $300 for an oil change. Anyone wanna guess what they want for a TB/WP job? Gives me da shivvers and makes me want to continue to get to know the car.
As for today's model Porsches, I've gotten a little lost. It's down to the Boxster, the Cayman, the Carerra (which I think is the 911) and the Cayenne. With the exception of the latter, they all kinda look the same to me. Nothing like the lines of the OB 928s. They just look like jelly beans to me.
Go ahead, fire away...

I like the Cayman best of the lineup...it's much more than a hardtop Boxster...the rear fenders especially get my attention. Great styling + great handling/power is a good combination in my book.
Isn't that why we're all here?

My '87 was leaking transmission fluid when I went to the Porsche Store for some parts. I didn't want to park on their nice clean service bay floor so I parked in an empty spot among some new Porsches on the lot. When I came out two people were gawking at my car; a saleswoman was explaining to a potential customer that they don't make this car anymore. He wanted a 928 - thought mine was a new car.

Steve,
That's awesome. I can't tell you how many people ask me what year my car is and are amazed to find out it's over 20 years old. (Until they see the interior
). It's on the list!

Yep, I get he same reaction at the dealership here in Lexington, Ky.
It's owned by Brian Cunningham (Brigg's Grandson) who is a Porsche factory driver and just won rookie of the year. Recently, we were at a memorial service for our PCA region VP, Becke Cleaver (sweet lady...RIP) and there were 15 or so Porsches there, and he walked up to my GT (only 928 there) and was telling me how much he loved the 928, and further quizzed me on when they were made, horsepower figures, etc..... It's funny how even his salespeople have the same reactions, but most really don't know a lot about them..... We 928 folks are so mysterious that way.... !

last time I drove through the P-car dealership the sales manager was walking out with someone, and he says just loud enough for me to hear, "damn, that sounds nice". actually gave me a wave on the way out too!

Nice one Steve!
Just picked up my 928 with a nice cold AC. The service manager told me that it sure attracted a lot of attention. He said he doesnt see many any more, especially nice ones.
At $100 an hour they better be nice
