86 = Same as 85

Upgraded on the 86.5:
S4 Brakes (Big Brembo's)
Suspension
Hatch has the provision for the S4 spoiler

I know I'm forgetting something

The difference is the brakes (bigger 4 piston on '86.5) and suspension I believe.

Whats fair market value on a clean 40k mile example? Every thing works.

If the car is a nice example and service is up to date. $10k seems to be norm from what I have seen. Nice clean examples are getting hard to find.

In case you misunderstood Don's post (above), the VIN you posted makes the car an '86 not an '86.5.

Yes it is an 86. The 86 is not exactly the same as an 85. All US 86 cars came with ABS.

The 86 will be worth less than the 86.5 if for no other reason than the suspension and brakes having slavage value. You can figure an 86.5 with all other things being equal will go for $1500 or so more than an 86. If it is a five speed over an auto figure in another $1500 for the trouble.

The 86.5 having been the last of the line will command a little more for collector value as well. One thing to check on the 85-86.5 are the valve cover bolts. If they are standard hex bolts then they have a tendency to break when removing the valve covers. If they have been replaced with the S4 style cap bolts that take a hex wrench then the engine can more easily be serviced.

Before you assume everything works check the door locks, cruise control, the heater control to see if it goes from cool to warm as you move the slide and for water leaks by washing the car with a hose. If the engine has not had a re-seal then you are looking at a top end reseal and probably motor mounts even with the low miles.

Good luck.
