Installed my New Single DIN Navigation Head Unit! It's Sweet!

I like it Andrew, I had a HK Traffic Pro but thats about 6 year old technology now. And with all the work to install a double DIN unit this seems like an excellent alternative. And its less than $700.
So youve had it a week now, still really happy with it?

I wonder how 5.1 DVD Audio sounds on it since it doesn't support a center channel (as if there were a place to put a center channel speaker anyway). If it downmixes 5.1 to 4.1, this could be a very nice unit. If it only plays 2.1 DVD Audio, I would be disapppointed. You guys should hear Bohemian Rhapsody in 5.1.

I've had 5.1 DVD in my cars for a couple of years Bill. The sound is AWESOME. I connected mine as a simple 4-speaker system so technically it's mixing the 5th channel in. The BIG news is how incredible ordinary CD's sound. MUCH better than a CD player.

Today I finally finished the entire install. I added the bluetooth functionality and a backup camera. The bluetooth works great, but with the X-pipe and the RMB installed the mic tried to cut out all the background noise that I'm told I sound like I'm in a cave. When I turn off the engine, it's clear. Oh well, people can still understand me.
As you can see the base unit for the bluetooth resides in the center armrest and the mic is atop the driver's A-pillar.
I also added the backup camera functionality. Yeah... it's a toy, but a cool one. Not sure yet about it's usefulness, but it's pretty cool how it just pops on when you put it into reverse.
So total cost:
Head unit ~$700
Bluetooth ~$144
Camera ~ $84
Total ~$928
I'm still getting used to the nav unit, but it seems to work just fine. I notice it got confused for a bit one time I took a different route and it recalculated, but it self-correct after about 30 seconds. Overall, I think it's a pretty robust solution for those wanting an integrated Nav, DVD, HD, Bluetooth, etc, etc, solution. I'm very satisfied.

Thanks Don. That last pic is the backup camera. I was wondering why the colors looked so washed out - it tuens out (after reading the instructions ) that in darker conditions like a garage or night time, it switches to an infra red mode and displays in B&W. Otherwise it normally displays in color. This is a function of the camera, not the head unit.

Bill-
I was pretty sure it was going to be too small, but you really don't look at it much while your driving - you mostly rely on the voice prompts. Also, remember the screen is only about 2 feet away from your eyes, so it's not as bad as I had expected. If you come to SITM, you're welcome to sit in it and experience it first hand!
