Mads, it was sold here in Sweden - I know the buyer visits rennlist so he might chime in sooner if not later He wanted it for a summer/weekend toy so I'm sure it'll be looked after... I had a couple of prospective buyers in DK, but since the car has already been registered in DK once, re-importing it is hopelessly expensive.

It's sad to have to let it go, but at the same time I feel it was the right thing to do. I've often said that the 928 is a great daily driver, but that was in the context of Danish car taxes (prohibiting a second car), shorter commutes and lower gas prices.

In my current situation, a 928 is completely rediculous as anything but a weekend toy, and since we need two daily drivers I was lookinig at storing three cars in a two car garage, one of which would never be driven. Instead we've replaced an old and a worn out car (the 928 was old, the BMW worn out ) with two brand new ones (Saab 9-5 and MINI Cooper) and end up paying less each month, all expenses included.

I hope the Cooper will satisfy my need for fun-driving, at least for a while

I believe you just helped a guy in Denmark with an S4 that was stuck in Germany awaiting major repairs? He was looking to buy my car but bailed when he failed to sell his own due to electrical issues, I pointed him in your direction, and last I heard the car got fixed at a fraction of the cost he'd originally been quoted.

My offer for a beer and/or whisky still stands btw.. should you be in my neck of the woods...

My best friend recently got a Mini Cooper S with manual 6-Speed transmission. I was privileged to drive it a few times already, and can tell you it's a total blast! Very different from the 928, but incredibly fun! Very direct - almost too direct - steering, and plenty of power for that little car.

But then I got to drive an SL550 today... OMG, I felt right at home with the sloped console and the clean cockpit layout, and everything seemed like a much improved 928. Smooth power (plenty of it; I did a a full power acceleration from standstill), quick shifts, incredibly competent ride... but it costs $90k more than both of my cars are currently worth. So, I personally will stick to waSAABi and the Hooked-On-Cars-Mobile for a while...

I've tested quite a few MINIs and they are lovely - It's a car that really makes you smile whether you drive it or just see it go by. The S is a gokart.

I opted for the standard Cooper over the S because the pre 2007 S is supercharged and quite thirsty (8.6L/10kkm vs. 6.9L/10kkm for the new turbocharged S) and the turbo S is hard to find used. The few I've found are loaded and cost more than I want to pay, more than a brand new 2008S in fact. I'd have to wait 3 months for a 2008 and I need it now, so... Standard Cooper it is.

I even tried the Diesel which seemed like a good alternative but really isn't. Cheap on gas, but higher price and road tax means it's a draw with the Cooper in terms of TCO, and I can do without the tractor sound

Hi Niels, congrats on getting the car sold. Remember seeing it for sale when I was looking for mine, but the fact that I really wanted a GT, a full leather cabin, a later MY, combined with fear of the high milage conspired to keep me away..

Interesting. I'm going the other direction, selling an '06 Cooper S JCW for a 928! I love the Mini and it's a blast to drive, but the 928 is just so much more....

Driving the Saab to work this morning I couldn't help but think how much better the 928 rides. And I'm comparing a brand new 2008 model to a 20 year old car with 365KKm on the clock. Nothinig wrong with the Saab, it's smooth, silent, comfortable, but it is also seriously "detached".

I feel like I'm the captain of an oil tanker - every command I send goes through 15 men before its effectuated. If I suck as a captain, someone else will save me. If I am really good at what I do, someone else can still **** it up.

In the 928 there is me and the car. If I am good we'll get home safely, if I screw up we're in the ditch...

Question: i wonder how do swedish people act, if someone from another country next them is trying to sell his car to them (me for example)? Our market here is very small and selling is quite difficult.

Selling a 928 IS difficult. Period.

Selling an export is, in my experience, even more difficult as you probably want to charge more while buyers generally expect prices to be lower because of the effort involved in going to another country to look at the car.

The buyer also factors in additional expenses in bringing home the car, insurance costs (for some cars, insurance is higher on imports), potential service issues (if new car) and so on.

Personally, I wouldn't bother with a foreign car unless it was at least $10K less than a similar car for sale in Sweden, so I doubt it'll work for a car as cheap as a 928 - you'd have to give it away.

From the offers I've been given over the past 6 months and the selling price, I'd say a nice S4 is worth around $10K in Europe, give or take depending on records, condition and location, but there are not many buyers for these cars so it *will* take time.

Interestingly, I got a similar offer 2 years ago when I imported the car, so they appear to hold their value.

Manual 928 seem to be gaining little value each year for past few years. I know several which were imported from Germany during past three or four years. If local car tax is not counted in it would be possible to get more for them now than when they were bought and brought here.

ziim, try to sell yours in Finnish Porsche forum in case your car is in Estonia. As you might know its very easy come check it from Helsinki by boat. Stockholm area too infact.
